Which was the exact intent when constructed. Government rarely does the people good, therefore, in an attempt to limit their ability to make changes, our government was intentionally set up to be slow and deliberate, rather than that of a dictatorship or monarchy.

a good commentary on how controlled people are at work, so that they have to eat when told they can eat. It also makes sense, though, if someone is cooking for everyone at a given time, such as when at home. Still very funny lol.

Back around 1973,, Ii literally ran into Chief Dan George, I was about 10 years. I can recall standing still and facing one way, then turned the opposite way, took a step or two without really looking and bumped into him. I was, as mentioned, around 10, a girl, and kind of small for my age. I remember looking up, as I realized I had bumped into a person. At that time, I thought he was the tallest old person I ever saw...and I was kind of awestruck and afraid at the same time because he was old, and I had bumped into him. I think he saw the startled look on my face and he said with a smile something like "No need to be afraid of this Indian" The only thing I could say was "Sorry, I didn't see you." and then I added "You're really tall" Then the family friend I was with...came over and told me, "This is Dan George, he's a movie actor" The family friend asked him for an autograph and I just kept my mouth shut. I wanted to tell him that he scared me because, I didn't see him and bumped into him and that he was old and tall....and not because he was an indian. But I never got up the nerve to say any of that. I realize now that Dan George probably wasn't more than 6 foot 2 inches. But in my family none of the guys were over 6 feet and all the older guys, like my grand dads, they were more like 5 foot 7 inches. Plus Dan George was 'big' not in a fat way, but just big framed. I think that is why my 10 year old self thought he was so tall. I can remember for days wishing I had told him I wasn't afraid of him because he was an indian. Later I got to see some of the movies he was in, Little Big Man and also in the t.v. series Kung Fu - and I was able to tell my parents I saw him, although they had heard about if from our family friends. I was staying with those folks when my parents went on the first vacation they ever had. ..

@@bellakim93 Thanks for taking the time to read that, and in commenting. And yes, you hit the nail on the head when you said he saw a scared kid and was nice to her. Even if he got wrong as to why I was scared...lol. The other thing I remember about the encounter was I thought he had pretty long hair for an old man...lol...and it was was grey. But given the times, I had seen a lot of guys with long hair, so that wasn't as shocking to me, but I think he was one of the few older men I saw with long hair. And too, this was the era when 'cowboys and indians' t.v. and movies were still going strong. So, I knew instantly that he was an indian. I guess I was already 'conditioned' to expect long hair. I also recall he was dressed in a mx of 'cowboy' and 'indian' styles. He had on jeans, a western shirt, like cowboys would wear, and a suede jacket with long fringes on the sleeves and the front of it, and he wore a beaded necklace.. His hair was just worn loose, no braids. I don't recall what he had on for footwear. But he was really nice when he was talking with the family friend...the husband. I'm not sure where his wife was at, but she was with us at the time. I also can't recall where I was, or what we were doing that day. For some reason, I think we were either in the state of Washington or Oregon. My family lived in Idaho, my 3 siblings stayed with others, and I went with my mom and dad to one of those state where they dropped me off with their friends, and then continued on their 2 week vacation somewhere else on the west coast. I remember I had a lot of fun with them, , and while I didn't know who Dan George was when I met him, I was excited to learn he was an actor and had been in the movies and on t.v. It was even better when I actually did get to see him on t.v. and later, in some of the movies he was in and, I got some bragging points in on my siblings, by telling them I met Dan George. : D

@@vixendoe6943 I believe it is futile to feel sorrow for Native Americans. History shows they exploited the land, murdered, raped, enslaved other tribes and did so for thousands of years. They still hate one another and their hatred is deep and violent. The Native Americans of the colonial era had already conquered and destroyed the original inhabitants of the Americas who had lived here before them. This is what archaeologists are finding out and supporting with solid evidence. We came to the Americas and that story is one of heroism, sorrow, strength of Will, concessions, poverty, riches, you name it. We inherited the gift they paid for… a beautiful place to live and the bonus is that we are still FREE.

@@568843daw Exploited? Under their land management all kinds of species of animals and birds flourished. Europeans documented that when flocks of birds took flight the sky was darkened. Within a few generations the European colonials would hunt many species to extinction. Yes, they did believe in slavery, but many tribes would absorb them through adoption and marriage. They were free to make choices. Some would choose to return to their own people over time. Yes, some tribes did fight each other, from time to time, but in many ways it was to test their courage, to count the coup,. To touch an enemy with out killing or being killed. In the Pacific Northwest, battles were fought through poetry contests. The winner could claim whatever had started the disagreement in the first place. No bloodshed required. It is known that the Nations of North America had full knowledge of the Nations of Central and South America and had open trade and commerce with them. There were great cultural centers and well developed cities in the Americas. Most evidence have been destroyed by farmers who had no intention or desire to preserve the remains. Here in my state important archaeological finds were never reported and destroyed to build factories, roads what ever. There were and still are more than 500 Indigenous nations in North America. At the coming of the European, the population ran into the millions. The government and church run residential schools killed thousands of Indigenous children, their bodies just begun to be found in unmarked graves. The cultural genocide continues to this day. I will stand as an ally always. I have learned to much not to.

@@568843daw certainly it is racist to hate on the white man, but you have to consider the types of people who came to the US, and the way the US government treated the native people. Both were full of crooks and criminals, but both also have their best people, as well. You are not free here, though. Not by a long shot, and the US still wars with other nations. We may now be less primitive, but if you look at the history of Europe, it is full of horrible people, horrible leaders, and all manner of disgusting actions. It just so happened that the native americans were not as advanced, but they did have their more advanced civilizations. I think that a part of what makes nations advance is limited territory and growing populations. In a land as big as north america, there was just too much room to grow before it became needed to start making a lot of laws and restrictions and technology. It just was not needed yet, but europeans brought their already developed institutions with them. I am not sure why some place, like hawaii, were fine with limited land, while others, like japan or england, would keep breeding until they literally had to add levels onto buildings to hole more people. Religion encouraging people to have a lot of kids, regardless of available land, might be one reason why. idk.

@@KeithWilliamMacHendry hello Scotsman Keith. While I know little about the Aboriginals of Australia, I know a lot about American history. The Native Americans, who Westerners met on the Eastern Shores of what is now the United States, had already murdered or enslaved the original inhabitants thousands of years before our arrival. They had, by then, established themselves on blood soaked soil. Then we came along, tried to work things out with them, some liked the arrangements and most tolerated them. It was a clash of cultures. Hollywood Movies would have us believe that Westerners stole everything they could from the ignorant Red man. The truth is far from that untoward image. The truth about our colonization is amazing, shocking, harrowing and astonishing. We purchased far more land than we ever took. We defended ourselves, our wives and children when natives murdered communities of settlers. The Massachusetts massacre of 1622 is an example. Did we raid their villages? Yes, because Natives needed to know colonists were not easy targets. Native Americans often sold land to settlers than murdered the family so they could sell it again. That was normal Native American policy back in Colonial America. In North Carolina in 1711 the Tuscarora declared War on the settlers. It was unexpected and swift and it started one morning when a defenseless community of 200 Quakers was murdered at dawn on a beautiful September morning. The Natives dismembered babies and small children and draped nearby bushes with body parts much like draping garland on a Christmas tree. Adults and older children’s bodies were mutilated in ghastly ways and the farmers modest homes were burned. The Quakers had always been friends with the Tuscarora tribe, and then they were not. SURPRISE!!! There are thousands of these types of accounts and all can be found online in various State Archives. True accounts found in these archives are from diaries, militia documents, military accounts, letters to family members, letters to the Crown, and so forth and these paint a different picture than the Hollywood version everyone thinks is true. No brother, the tragedy here is ignorance of historical events and the facts that support them. Knowing about historical events helps us not repeat poor choices and yet ignorance abounds. Thank you for your insight and opinion. Be well, enjoy life… you only get one bite of the apple! 😉👍

@@redhen2123 wish I could but far too lengthy for here. Briefly I've yet to figure out why in my teen age years I was drawn to Native American belief system. I started going to Local Powwows searching for answers. I read books about and by Native Americans. As the years passed many more books written by various people about shamanism. The primary thing that happened for me was a relationship with my spirit guides. Without them I absolutely shudder to think what my life could have been without them. When others failed me, betrayal, rejection ect my guides were there for me. Thru thick and thin they've never left me. My 100% LOYAL companions. I'm a senior citizen now so I've had a lifetime with them. In the beginning Native American belief system was only place that I found info about spirit guides. When it comes to God/ Spirit/ ect my personal " beliefs" are based on what I actually experienced. I've delved into various belief systems. I've concluded everyone that believes in a Higher Power regardless of which belief system they subscribe to that we ALL are talking about the exact same ONE. For me Native American, Shamanism, indigenous cultures' belief systems resonant with me. Works for me. I was fortunate enough to have 2 encounters with 2 Native American Medicine Men; Rolling Thunder and Bear Heart. Their books are still available. If you sincerely seek God/Spirit you will find what you're looking for and experience Spirit for yourself in whatever belief system you re drawn to. Don't know if this is helpful but hope so. BTW I'm a white woman. Never figured out why this " Indian thing" happened to me. Drove me crazy first half of my life. Finally gave up. Never gonna know. Just accepted it. Best thing that ever happened to me.

It is a fascinating fact that "scalping" was introduced to the Algonquin and Iroquois Confederacy by the English during the French and Indian War, as they paid money/trade goods for those that brought scalps showing they had fought and killed the enemy. It became a somewhat "universal" practice as the Amerind religious beliefs generally held that a disfigured enemy could not enter the afterlife.

The ALCAN Highway was built during world War 2 to get equipment, men and supplies to Alaska. It was built far inland to be out of the range of aircraft from the ocean. They made 4 construction crews. One crew would start at each end while the other 2 would work in opposite directions from the middle out. Since the middle was out in the middle of nowhere, it was the 2 Black crews that got that assignment. After the war natives were interviewed. Quote " The 1st White man we saw was Black"

There were many battles, but not as many deaths as a white man's battle. To count coup is much better. You strike the opponent with a hand, or short stick, and then ride away. It is a greater honor than killing for the loser of the battle will be long in erasing the stain. To fight is natural, like our brothers in the forests and prairies. We cannot know ourselves until we have faced mortality, which also occurs in battle, though coups are better. Does not the white man take risks just for the doing? And sometimes it's more serious, for survival is not given equally to all. The land will sustain only a certain number of human beings, so conflict arises. Peace is the dream of elders, war is the way of the young. So it is among all men. Peace or war is a personal choice, we have no armies. Fighting, being as much about honor as rights, will be the path of men till we are all gone beyond the sky.

Also, if faced with saving only one life between two lives, then I would hope that you would attempt to save the individual that you're most likely able to rescue - & rescue him first, then check again if there's any chance at saving the other one too (else you're wasting precious time thinking about racial issues during an emergency situation... & if you would also have to consider age, sex, etc., etc., etc. before acting at all, then you might have had time to save both - & you might not end up with enough time left to save either).

@@bellakim93 Many thanks. I was an elementary teacher and it came to be that second graders had to make two presentations a year. My co-teacher and I chose a Native American unit first which came with teaching about the four main groups. I'd never seen such excitement in a classroom ever towards learning. I drew symbols and they copied them, they learned about clothing, foods, headdresses and the like. Each student had to make a project ( I'm sure some parents helped a lot,) and then stand up in front of the class with their invited parents and relatives and explain what it was and how they made it. I was astounded by their creativity and sincerity; in fact, I kept many of their projects for years. What did they learn from this experience? Compassion. Empathy. And a desire to learn more. No, I'm not tooting my own horn-- I'm being honest. To this day, many of my grown up students still remember it. And I got 3 long wooden strips, put symbols on a bed sheet and made a tepee for the room. Filled it with books and a small rug. To my students, it was their safe haven and a place to be alone. No, I don't have it anymore but I do have the incredible memories of their learning and mine. Again, sincere thanks for your comment.❤

Many Native American tribes had rich oral traditions and used symbols and pictographs for communication long before European settlers arrived. Some also learned to read and write using English after contact with settlers. It's amazing how diverse and resourceful their cultures are!

Right, now we are oppressed with horses, guns, schools, laws, farms, abundant food, clean running water, roofs over our heads, winter heat, summer air conditioning, paved roads, motorcycles, cars, hospitals, radios, televisions, computers, internet, air travel. If only we could go back to the way it was before 1492.

Some are but philosophy. Some are fitting, in general - 'though one can always find exceptions. Some are only sometimes true & sometimes not true. Many are racist & come across as if Amerindians don't misbehave. Before the White men showed up tribes were pushing one another around - warring & taking over the lands of neighboring tribes (the same as the Europeans, the Africans, & the other various Asians were doing in their own neck of the woods & beyond). There is no nobel & innocent race of men: we are all in need of rescue by our Creator (whether we already understand this or not). And, Yes (we got the Bibles) - thank God! ✝️😎👍
