I had the good fortune to meet and spend time long with Emery and other friends while photographing trains at Delray Junction, located in southwest Detroit. I remember his vehicle which had a platform located on its top from which he often photographed trains. That was as long ago as thirty years, I believe. The tower still stands there, although some of the railroads that operated through there are now long gone, as are most of the guys who met there every weekend.

Some excellent footage. So much that was seen in this video has vanished from the American landscape. The views of NKP steam out to pasture was of special interest to me. It looks like Bellevue, OH but not sure. Thanks for putting this together.

The last scene in this posting ends in 1979--when did Emery make his last film? Looking at his field equipment through the lens of today,they look ancient--that portable reel to reel machine to record his thoughts,his 16mm cameras on tripods,two film cameras dangling around his neck--for the time,I'm sure everything was considered up to date--I'm guessing video was not yet invented or if it was,the pricetag was beyond Emery's budget--he did manage though,to live long enough to see the 21st century. What did he do for employment to finance his outings?

Thanks for watching - Emery Gulash was photographing trains at least into the early-mid 90's that we know of, later on he got into Super VHS and bought a nice Panasonic S-VHS camcorder, Green Frog has Detroit footage from Emery not yet released that he provided to us from his S-VHS master tapes - we transferred all that to the professional Betacam SP format and this will be released some time in the future as a program or programs to purchase from Green Frog! Emery Gulash worked for GM's Fisher Body as a Graphic Artist, he made good money as far as we know, and had a home in Detroit as well as a home in FLA.

OK, so looking at our KZbin picture above for this video, you will see Emery Gulash on the very right of the 4 guys in the shot, next to the left is Walt Sardinha one of Emery's good friends, the other two gentleman to the left, we do not know the names of these two guys unfortunately, but they are seen with Emery in a number of his films!

3:56 to 5:16 I don't know what the photographer was thinking but he definitely could have been killed doing these stunts. As such, for current and future railfans NEVER under any circumstances try this at home.
@justahillbilly77773 жыл бұрын
It was edited. Though **HIGHLY** convincing, the jumpcut at 5:03 and the lack of the shadowy outline of a body on the ties under the cars indicates that he in fact, was **NOT** under the train, and merely got back into the position for the sake of goofing off. ****HOWEVER**** , I agree with the statement of, "As such, for current and future railfans, NEVER under any circumstances try this at home", though I also agree that *no one* should try it anywhere, regardless of it's at home or abroad.
