It’s more canon but I think for a different reason. It’s subtle, but the books do describe HC as left-handed. He paints and sculpts left-handed, hence his art is beautiful, but traditional “proper” writing is done with the right-hand. So it’s possible he’s not doing it for attention, but he’s trying to do it “properly”. Now, XL might not care which hand he uses, so HC is likely doing it for attention some times, but there’s moments when he practices on his own, so he’s also just trying to do it the “right” way, which is right-handed.
