that alarm you hear is not specifically for the dijken. It´s an alarm we used in world war 2 for the planes. And now you can hear them every first Monday of a new month so they know if the sound is still good.

Every 1st Monday of the month at noon the air raid sirens will be tested, nowadays accompanied by a text message to all phones having installed the appropriate app. The sirens nowadays have become general alarm sirens, including warning for the threat of flooding. The text message informs people about the type of alarm that is sounding and instructions about how to act.

I'm dutch myself, and I've got to say, at the end of the video, when he speaks dutch, it's almost perfect dutch! I could understand every dutch word he said, even if the pronounciation wasn't completely accurate. Good job! Koningsdag comes all the way back from Queen Wilhelmina, her birthday was 31 augustus, and it was a celebration up to 1948. Then: Queen Juliana rose to power, and her birthday: 30 april, was the next 'queensday': Koninginnedag. Then, when queen Beatrix rose to power, she remained celebrating queensday on 30 april, because her birthday of 31 januari was in the middle of winter, and that would dampen the fun. We used to be pretty religious, so if 30 april was on a sunday, queensday would be moved one day, before 1980 it would be postponed to 1 may after 1980 it would be one day sooner, on the saturday. When King William-Alexander rose to power, he decided to have Kingsday on his actual birthday: 27 april. If its on a sunday we will do it a day early now.

Few mistakes: Testing the alarms is definetely not because we need them for the 'dijken'. Just for every disaster that could happen. Koningsdag is the Kings Birthday, so April 27th, no matter what day, except when it is on a sunday, then it will be shifted 1 day.
