29:08 I mean they did also have a fourth punic wars. That was a pretty insignificant thing that happened. Like I understand where you are coming from here but they did have a fourth punic wars. For context, the hostilities never ceased after Carthage was defeated at the end of the third one as there was no loser left to speak of. And since then neither Carthage nor Rome signed a peace treaty until a few years back. It was essentially a war without any casualty or hostilities, and some guy in Rome was like, "Oh, since we need to cease all hostilities to join some union, we need to go back all the way into history to see if we have any active hostilities" and found that they have been actively at war with Carthage for more than 2000 years as inheritors of the Roman Empire.

long comment incoming. if you have adhd, i humbly request you read the full thing. 5:34 this is not a symptom of adhd. i have very severe adhd. *very* severe adhd. my brain struggles a lot - a lot - to focus on one specific thing for an extended period of time. and half the time, i can understand that something needs to be done, but never have the thought to actually do it in the first place. im not procrastinating, i just... dont even remember that its a thing that has to be done. but when i am reminded that the task exists, all of the information about it comes flooding back to me. i am aware of it, and i stop what im doing and i do it. i do not procrastinate. something needs doing, i do it. and half the time i enjoy it. i get a sense of fulfillment out of it. hell, during stressful situations with a lot to keep track of, a lot of people get overwhelmed, but i become lucid. i become aware of everything thats going on, and that enables me to handle the situation better. i actually attribute that to adhd, because theres more stuff actively happening, more new information coming in, so the brain doesnt file it away to be recalled another day. adhd does not turn work into a saw trap. adhd is not the opposite of work ethic. adhd, at its absolute worst, makes your brain shove information into the back of your awareness against your will, but you still have that information. you just need to be made aware of it. there are ways to manage that. and adhd, at its best, enables you to keep track of more things in a short amount of time than others can, because your brain is able to quickly process the oncoming barrage information. this gives us an advantage in multitasking, and a disadvantage in extended tasks. it turns our thought patterns into sprinters, so to speak. the idea that adhd makes work painful is just incorrect. adhd affects how the *brain processes information,* not a persons work ethic. not a persons reaction to work that needs doing. somebody with severe adhd can absolutely have a strong work ethic. i personally consider myself to be somebody like that. if you have adhd and you struggle with work, dont blame that on your adhd. *everyone hates work.* a poor work ethic isnt a symptom of your condition. its just a trait that you have. but that is actually good news, because such traits can be trained. everyone needs to train work ethic and determination in a different way, but personally, the most effective way for me was learning to derive a sense of fulfillment from having a strong work ethic. by becoming motivated by motivation itself, my brain didnt need a reward for hard work - simply observing the action of hard work *became* the reward. observing my growth *became* the reward. this effectively became a perfect positive feedback loop, because the act of working hard naturally fueled me to work harder. i think that this can apply to anybody, adhd or not, so if you are struggling with perseverance maybe you can find ways to do something similar. i didnt really have any sort of strategy for it, though, it was quite literally just a thing i started doing, so im not sure how i could offer advice to help with anyone else trying to do the same thing. but im starting to get off topic, so returning to the original point: too many people with adhd blame adhd for whatever they consider to be their faults. it is an easy finger to point. people say that adhd makes it harder to work, even though that isnt true, so typically people with adhd are less inclined to try to work hard (something i used to deal with). they believe they have an inherent disadvantage with work as a concept. i want people with adhd to understand that work ethic is not the same thing as your awareness being fixated on different things rapidly. because if something is just a behavior, and not a symptom of a mental condition, then that behavior can be changed and improved. saying something is "because of adhd" just kills any potential for growth, because adhd cannot be changed. its literally genetic. but behavior absolutely can be changed. if you read this full thing, thank you. i really appreciate you taking the time to read this, especially if you have adhd, because i know how difficult it is to sit down and read such a long youtube comment for us. i wish you luck as you better yourself.

Perhaps it doesn't make work painful for YOU. Your experiences are not universal! Everyone experiences mental illnesses differently. Yes work ethic can be learned, but adhd also effects motivation by means of executive dysfunction, which can we worked around with training but is something we have no control over! Hope this helps 🩷
@mangounit96785 ай бұрын
@@sepiamestus you are correct that everyone experiences adhd in different ways. the original poster in the video said "the thing about adhd" (universal) whereas i was pretty clear that i was describing my personal experience. the point of what i was saying was that i have very severe adhd and the original post literally does not apply to me in the slightest, so what they are saying is not universal. i was describing my personal experiences to try and help people understand that what the original poster described is not adhd. it may be made worse by adhd, but it is not a symptom of the genetic code that people with adhd have. i was saying that too many people blame their issues on adhd - something they cannot control - and, if somebody believes their issues are out of control, why are they ever really going to apply themselves to work on it? there is no point to it. so a lot of people dont, because they believe its just adhd. i was trying to help dissuade people from an ultimately harmful claim that growth is out of their control, using my personal experiences as evidence that adhd does not inherently destroy work ethic. i do not see the problem with that in the slightest.
@sepiamestus5 ай бұрын
The crux of what i'm trying to say is, if the post didnt resonate with you, it didnt resonate with you. You are not a medical professional, and you do not get to police how people express their frustrations with their own disorders. The post resonated with me, as someone who has horrible executive dysfunction. No, i am not 'less incline to want to do work', my brain stops me from doing it, and if i ignore it, I suffer from panic attacks and migraines. I have spoken to a psychologist about this- this happens in severe cases of adhd. No one person has all the same symptoms, and thus trying to say 'this doesnt happen with adhd' will often end with you being very incorrect.

I did something like the discord thing but I'd just have them as more flanderized versions of me (Meaning they differed in what i put forward about myself) People believed them to have different religions amongst other things despite me never lying and outright claiming followship of the religion i had some ties to. Just talking about growing up catholic positively a lot leads people to believe you still are such even if despite the teachings you just can't bring yourself to believe them in their claims.
