Huh. We've heard something even weirder as a reason. Apparently the reason (maybe it happened at the same time?) for having your arms on the table being rude was because pirates and sailors usually would put their arms down on the table to prevent the rocking from the ship knocking them off balance. So since this was seen often in criminals (pirates were thought to get into more of a habit because they're at sea more often than legal sailors) it was seen as almost a faux pas to do so in public. The best way we can explain this is that basically it was one of those gestures like the difference between a "3" using your thumb and a "3" starting with index during the World Wars (if that doesn't ring a bell, Germans and other interior European countries use their thumb when making a "3" for things like ordering alcohol. But Brits, as well as Americans, typically use only their index, middle and ring fingers to form their 3, so if a spy were stupid enough to use the British version instead of the local one, you'd get outed pretty fast.) People would notice little things like this and started to associate it with certain behavior, so people would have to STOP doing that in order to counter it. Now we just say it's rude. 😂 -🖊️/🪼

Okay, the green flags for first dates thing. Let me tell you about mine with my current partner. We literally had started dating that day, which was the last day of senior year (which when I'm writing this, was not very long ago, like maybe a month now) but we were both so upset when we got seperated. All we wanted to do was hang out together with some of our friends and say our goodbyes to people we know we wouldn't see again, but we did it together, holding hands and sharing funnel cakes together with our other friends. We made jokes together and we laughed and talked about how far we had come from elementary school (mutual friend and I met in middle school, my partner and I had met first day of senior year) we would talk about our lows and how we're glad we overcame them, and discovered ourselves through them. It was like we had been there for one another through it all. We were friends before dating, and now we're even closer. We geek out about games and shows together and joke about nothing, but it's the silence that makes me think this is great. Cause the silence isn't awkward when we're together. It's comfortable. It's calm and loving, and we can just look into each other's eyes and know we're there for each other. And it's that reassurance that we need, especially me. I'm not the most comfortable with how I look, and he's there for me anyways, telling me I look gorgeous no matter what. I tell him how handsome he is, and how I can't wait until he gets his surgeries to feel like himself (he's trans) and how I'm going to be there to support him during them. We don't have to text every day cause we know we acknowledge we have different social lives and lives in general, but he's always so excited to see me. So much so he sprints into my arms! I cannot explain how much joy that fills me with. Thanks for reading me happy rant about a bunch of green flags 😅

Holy shir 31:35 really hit me. I was best friends with someone in kindergarten, and when we started 1st grade (well, the grade before 1st) we seperated and didn't talk to each other anymore. This was like.. 8 years ago. I still remember her, I remember her name, how she spoke, how it looked like where she lived then, and I remember the gray kitty that grabbed onto my pants to get attention. I think of her every so often. I did meet her a few years later in dance class, but never spoke to her because it'd be awkward at the time, so I don't really count that. _Had_ a friend for 6 years up until a couple months ago. Turns out he’d been masking his true identity this entire time. But not the way you’d initially think. See, his name and address and all that stuff bound to him was him, but his personality and who he truly was inside? Not remotely what he put on outside. How did I find this out? He told me that exactly. “Our personalities aren’t compatible.” A couple weeks prior we were hanging out and went to the store for food. He said some really out-of-pocket shit with relation to The Holocaust as the butt-end of a joke. I told him it was out-of-pocket and he got all defensive. We nearly parted ways that day, but we talked outside the store for a moment before returning inside to grab snacks. FFWD to when I try asking him to come over again and he says no, before telling me the incompatibility thing. That wasn’t the first time he’d made an out-of-pocket or blatantly bigoted comment thinly disguised as a “joke,” but the thing with the relationship we had was that he had me convinced it was fine and that they really were jokes. When we stopped talking, all of that rushed back in, and everything makes sense. I’m pretty sure he’s a neo-Nazi. His grandmother is openly racist and alt-right (I’ve had the displeasure of experiencing her shit firsthand), and her father was a high-ranking card carrier in Nazi Germany before moving to Canada to evade authorities. He’s said some pretty awful things, including slurs - which his friend-group openly use too - which combined together makes for genuine concern on my part. Had I not called him out on his shit repeatedly enough I’m afraid he would’ve either tried looping me into it - not gonna happen; I’m a diehard anarchist now - or upon realizing that take me to get lynched without me knowing it. Still, I don’t know for certain, it’s just the one thing that makes the most sense. I’m sure I’ll find out the truth eventually, but the meantime just sucks. But like… think about it: six years with a different personality, him being around someone pretty damn progressive, and instead of reconsidering his own beliefs he just decides tricking me is better. Who the fuck does that?

In which yeah it is a coin flip on who stole from who (except in the rare case it is the same user posting on both sites.) Edit - Some of the "anonymous" user posts do feel like they were originally Ask Reddit content and then put into some "make a Tumblr post" site I will say. Could be the maker of the video wanted to make a comp of things they had but also make it look the same, but Tumblr posts without the funny names feel cursed. Edit 2 - Then the "Tumblr post" at 23:02 flat out says "of Reddit" so there goes any remaining feelings of illusion. To the video creator, you could've had a Tumblr comp and Ask Reddit comp, other people do it, nobody would've judged you.

Elbows on the table comes from mid-medieval times, where manners were mostly the thing of nobility, and noble banquets. Only they didn't use tables, since having a giant table for 30 people is impractical af (Like, where are you going to even put that, how would you even carry that where it needs to be?) they mostly used tall benches with a big piece of wood on them as a temporary table assembled on-location. If you lean your elbows on the table, you're going to flip the whole thing over and ruin the party for everyone. See? This is what happens when you blindly accept customs and don't think about their practicality, you end up being an asshole to your kids over something that hasn't been practical since 1400's
