Furlow is played by Magda Szubanski, she's a legendary Australian comedy actress known for various sketch comedies and sitcoms going back decades. Probably the biggest guest star of the show so far (no spoilers). International audiences might know her best as the farmer's wife from the movie "Babe".

I wasn't a fan of how filler-esque this episode feels either, but I do like the progression of character interaction we got from it, what with Aeryn and D'argo's respective interplay with John and more exploration of Zhaan's Delvian physiology. Also, we see John concentrating on the prospect of accessing a wormhole again to return home. All in all, an illuminating episode, even in the main plot doesn't seem super deep on its own. John's ability to think on his feet and adjust his approach in particular is on display here with the Blood Hutners and Aeryn's increasing craftiness outside of combat. Looking forward to seeing more of that.

@AngeloBarovierSD2 ай бұрын
Eh, character growth isn’t filler. Good plots are informed or entirely driven _by_ character. Without character growth, a plot is merely a series of events with no pathos or connection. For instance, Independence Day (on paper a rather silly film) would not be the crowd-pleasing movie it is without all the quiet moments of character growth sprinkled throughout the otherwise wall-to-wall action/disaster pieces. “Nobody’s perfect!” Moreover, if a particular part of a story doesn’t interest you, it doesn’t make it filler - which is something no writer I’ve ever met wants to write.

Yes, absolutely. This is good writing where even "filler" episodes are really anything but filler. Nothing major "happens" but these episodes do well with giving the characters space (and airtime) to develop relationships and as individuals too. Unfortunately I can't say the same for a lot of current writing in shows…
@StarkRG2 ай бұрын
I don't see this as filler at all, in fact, I see it as a key episode. Chrichton now has a path ahead of him and his relationship with D'Argo improved significantly. I'm not even sure the term "filler" can apply to a mostly episodic show. With just a few exceptions, each episode is a mostly self-contained story, so either the term filler applies to every episode or it doesn't apply to any.

I can adapt a joke to this episode. A penguin is flying his module when it springs a link, so he takes it down to Furball's shop. She tells the penguin to get out of her way so she can check out the module. While he's walking around the sand planet he finds an ice cream shop, and orders a big bowl of vanilla ice cream. At first he eats politely, but pretty soon he can't help himself, he dives right in and rolls around in the ice cream. Then the penguin goes back to Furball's and asks "so how does it look?" Furball pokes her head up and says "looks like you blew a seal." "No no," corrects the penguin, "it's just ice cream."

I love the Butch & Sundance joke. That all all of the other human pop-culture references John makes are commonly referred to as "Crichtonisms". And they just keep getting better and better every time. Farscape's action and story is always good, but what really makes it special is the character development and interactions. Most other shows start off with at least most of the crew already working cohesively together. Farscape does a complete 180 in this regard in that the main crew starts off completely hostile and/or unfamiliar with each other. And it makes them overcoming the struggles they end up facing all the more satisfying IMHO. As you continue watching there is something you will learn quickly. Farscape has very very few truly "filler" episodes. In Farscape, events and actions have actual consequences. And the status is almost never quo, so to speak. Trust us, you're going to keep enjoying this ride very very much.

My favourite part is John calling out D'Argo. It really needed to happen. It was the only way to get D'Argo to back the frell off and actually start giving John a chance. D'Argo was in the wrong, but it took John way too long to call him out on his BS. I know John is a good person, always wanting to give the benefit of the doubt and second chances. But he needed to call out D'Argo earlier. Well, it looks like Furlow now got a starting point to find a way to make money of that Wormhole data.

Something to remember about D'Argo (especially in the first couple of seasons) is that even though he's a warrior and all-around badass, emotionally he's still an adolescent (for a Luxan). If you think of his reactions as the reactions of a hormonal 15 year old boy he makes a WHOLE lot more sense.

'Til the Blood Runs Clear' though was never aired in my country... it used to air at 6:30pm in the evening here in NZ (serious miss read about the show by the local broadcaster, guess they saw puppets and thought hey kids) and i think Zans photogasms pushed it from allowable family viewing to not, granted its a little more violent than the previous episodes. Which was funny since I remember seeing shots from this episode on the internet and fan websites at the time etc and being seriously confused about a desert world with goggles, and thought they were deleted scenes from one of the other season 1 episodes (and they never went past season 1 here either :( ). Didnt get to see this personal 'lost' episode until i got the entire boxed set 5 years latter... and yeah it feels a little off kilter from the previous ones (for me it was the rock music), but yeah even the 'filler' episodes of Farscape (and there is a decent number per season) have as much growth as the non filler ones, so they never feel like a waste... and they are always interesting, and some, often have bits in them that appear to be filler, but arent.

Same situation with my sister, I'm also of the opinion treating dogs like kids is what causes dogs to attack family members.
