I remember Mythbusters tested the upside down boat air pocket thing. The problem is that the air pocket would be so buoyant that there is no way you could hold it down underwater with just a couple of men's body weight.
@jerodast9 ай бұрын
Archimedes principle! The buoyancy would be equal to the weight of the water displaced. Imagine filling that air bubble with water - probably pretty damn heavy. With that said...get a real small air pocket and it should work, right? Don't forget the boat's weight also pushes back on the buoyancy... I figured the flaw could be that the boat is (mostly) watertight, but not completely airtight.

@@jerodast - Wouldn't change the fact, that they wouldn't even have been able to walk underwater, even if they weren't holding an object with very strong buoyancy, though. This, and also the later movies (especially from #4 onward) tried to make Jack the main character, proving that they'd failed to understand that what makes Captain Jack Sparrow so compelling isn't the wacky antics, it's the _mystery:_ we don't know what's driving Jack, what he's planning, or even whose side he's on until the climax of the film. That's great for a supporting character, but for a protagonist it's a lot harder to get audiences invested.

Fun fact about corsets- they were not patriarchal torture devices designed to oppress women. They were basically bras with front and back support. You could not wear one of those 18th century fashionable gowns without a corset. Also, when this movie takes place, it was impossible to lace the corset tight enough to make you pass out. Metal eyelets hadn’t been invented yet, so if they tried to tight lace, they would just rip the corset. By the time tightlacing became a thing, only upper class women did it, because only they could afford to lose mobility. Today’s corsets are also technically more dangerous than corsets back then, because corsets back then were customized to a specific woman’s torso, while today, they’re mass produced in a single shape.

Commodore, I believe is just shy of an admiral. There would be a little bit of a fancy party for it, especially in the colonies because it'd be so rare. It was extremely rare for admirals to be commissioned in the new world as well (because admirals tend to be more politicians than sailors so they'd always be close to the throne unless specifically ordered to sail by the king). Lord Admiral Nelson was a little bit of an exception to this. He was very much a sailor, but his loyalty and fervor to the crown impressed the king and his subordinates alike.
