One little thing I’d point out: the woman painted onto the Roci is a homage to “pin-up girls,” who were often painted onto the noses of bombers and other warplanes especially during WWII. By modern cultural standards it certainly isn’t a good look, but at the time it was viewed as both a good luck charm and a reminder of the people and way of life they fought for. It was actually hotly debated within the early feminist movements; some argued essentially that the whole pin-up thing was objectifying, others saw pin-up girls as a rejection of Victorian-era bodily shame and embrace of beauty and sexuality. Interesting piece of history to call back to!

LOL You're wondering about peeing in a space suit. LOL You're right that nothing on this show is throwaway. That's why some of the things you say evokes LOLz. Yes, Kenzo is the spy Avasarala wrested from the guy in the aquarium. Because Avasarala works for Errinwright, Errinwright is aware of him too. Kenzo is the spy Errinwright said had missed his last report (probably what Kenzo was trying to send from the Rocinante). I hope you tied together all the Don Quixote references in this episode, leading to the fact that Holden's role model was a would-be knight errant who took on fights he couldn't win.

In "The Expanse" physics is actually one of the characters, though the television series tends to telescope time-frames. In the case of Miller recording a "letter" to Julie's father (Jules-Pierre Mao), it will take several hours for a message beamed from Ceres to reach Earth. Any kind of communications that are not local are more like sending a text to someone, with pictures and sound.

One of the things that made the Expanse so great is that the writers understand how to create strong characters of both genders while also blending an ethnically diverse cast without falling into any of the trappings that some of the newer shows have fallen into and are being so heavily criticized for. (i.e. curses a hell of a whole lot more. To be fair to show Chrisjen, at this point the show was still on Sy-Fy channel (Sci-Fi) back then, and they had only so much freedom to portray her accurately on a broadcast channel. Once the show as acquired by Amazon in later seasons, she gets to let loose a lot more with the cursing and you get a more book-faithful Chrisjen Avasarala.)

Anderson Dawes is a roughneck gangster, but try not to be so critical of him, and understand that Earth and Mars have had their foot on the back of the Belters necks (who are exploited humans) for sometime now. Episode 1 at the outset helped us to appreciate that this whole situation with Earth, Mars and the Belt was a powder keg ready to explode. There is a “belter version” of the song All by Myself in a future episode. ;)

In my personal(( 'two-a-penny', 'Peanut Gallery' )) opinion, Amos... _is what a man _*_should_*_ be... But at the same time, conversely, I _*_also_*_ believe that Holden is what a man _*_could_*_ and _*_should_*_ be..._ I'll offer nothing as to _why_ I say what I say; if I do, it'll be 'kinda spoilery', at the _very_ least...

You mixing up Alex and Amos’s names is funny enough but I almost died laughing when you said Hearst instead of Hearse 🤦🏼♂️ 😂 👀

Interesting fact the Ghostbusters vehicle wasn’t a hearse, it was a 1959 Cadillac with an ambulance conversion. Then it was highly modified for ghost busting. The 2016 remake (that most Ghostbusters abhor) used a hearse, and is one of the many problems with that film.

Love seeing the intro where "The Expanse" finally takes over! It'll never let go and you'll probably end up rewatching the show (maybe not since as a Reactor you're already rewatching it as you edit and go back looking for details)! Til this day I still think of The Expanse randomly but especially the music by Clinton Shorter (just brilliant stuff throughout the series, especially the lovely longer intro)! I never watched "Reactors" until The Expanse which allows me to enjoy the show all over again through another person's eyes (the shock, growing in love with the show, the jaw dropping moments, the tears, etc)!

I definitely noticed at the beginning of season 2 there was some thing a little different about earth… a bit bluer than normal 🙃

The explanation of the plastic chips Miller cashed in - they are casino chips. They are used by criminals & regular Belters alike as a kind of universal currency. Handy for someone who takes bribes…. & that’s why when the dealer / pawnshop guy says “That’s a lot of winnings” Miller replies “yeah, for a lifetime of loosing” I think he’s regretting a lot of the choices he’s made in the past.

Amos is such a wonderful character. He's not the sharpest pencil but he knows that about himself, that's why he relies on Naomi so much and his other abilities. He's product of violent environment but good guy in his heart.

In my humble opinion, I do wonder if Avasarala isn't somewhat based on Servalan, from the old BBC series Blake's 7... and wow, what a character that was!

You'll get Amos's name right soon, I'm sure. :) And your intro with how Amos would do some nasty stuff in a cool calm way, I think this episode confirms your assessment. To set your mind at ease, this is our crew's ship, until it isn't... :p Miller is a bit obsessed with finding Julie and proving he's not just washed up. So in a way, maybe love and OMG, Did you just sing All By Myself? LOL. Francis Fisher was also in the western Unforgiven and there's a nice little story with the outdoor scene. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnmcaImArpuHnqM Chrisjen knows where Jimmy is since she has Kenzo, the spy she got from the dude in the aquarium. Space travel is like Star Trek, in the Expanse... if you're rich. :) But the ships are still built like buildings, because thrust gravity still works the same for any ship. You're doing good, Gal!

9:35 Remember that space is vast. So due to the relative slow speed of light and electromagnetic waves, direct live communication is pretty much impossible between different worlds and locations in the solar system. Even the lag time between earth and the moon is about 1.2 seconds making a live conversation very awkward. And between earth and mars lag is already on average 20 minutes, making live communication impossible. Between earth and the belt or even the Jovian system, we're talking about an hour of lag time or even more... So this is why in the expanse you'll rarely see people use direct live communication, but see them use recorded messages all the time.

12:52 On humans fighting each other: Gravity gets its mitts into everything. In general, you can place odds know who will win fights based on the gravity they grew up as it impacts the body's development. People from higher gravity worlds are stronger with greater bone density and muscles than those from lower gravity. Living in lower gravity may even that out over time as you lose that density and such, we still have a head start advantage. Earthers > Martians > Lunars > Ceres > smaller asteroids > open space. Even skinnier Holden.

One of the awesome things about Amos is he will never threaten anyone, he just honestly explains what will happen.

You'll learn the names... And if not, just know that in the show people also pronounce some names different than other people. Reason is that the writers want to show the multicultural aspect, while also just not getting stuck with one pronunciation (maybe also to just piss off people that like to have only one "true" pronunciation 😅😅, like me with the Anubis ship name 😅)

I like the pentagram you are wearing. This show is super realistic. No artificial gravity, no force fields, no phasers, no teleporters, and no warp drive. The engines the ships use are still sci-fi, just not to the extent of warp drive or hyper space, but they can get you from Earth to Mars in weeks instead of months. That is still not possible with todays tech.

I'm confused. In the beginning, you talk about Alex like you're talking about Amos.
