The correct term is Royal Viltrumite , he is far above other Viltrumites, Invincible is also stronger than the average Viltrumite due to Nolans royal heritage
@andrewaddison77711 ай бұрын
I mean look at it from Nolan's point of view if you have empathy. He is struggling with his whole worldview. "How is this better?" 1st) Viltrumites are essentially as close to demigods in their universe. They live for THOUSANDS OF YEARS, have amazing physical physics defying abilities and superior tech. They then decide to explore space and find out that every single species they come across is short lived, weak and essentially living in the middle ages compared to the Viltrumites. Of course you would develope a superiority complex of epic proportions. But wait... 2nd) The culture he was born, indoctrinated and raised in is a culture that very recently decided to kill off all the weak of there society. Weak in all metrics, meaning if you had empathy or compassion for anything lesser than a Viltrumite you needed to go. So Nolan has never cared about anything but his mission he belived so deeply in because why would he not? This man was having a breakdown experiencing emotions he never knew he had. Because.. 3rd) Nolan has lived for thousands of years by this point. I would probably guess like 2-4k but if it is any higher it proves the point even more. He was only on Earth for 20 years. 20 years compared to 2 thousands is quite small. Which is why I think most people take offensewhen he called Debbie a pet. I bet most see the pet comment as a dominant/submissive thing but I truly believe he meant it in terms of lifespans. There are people that truly love their pets like they are blood relatives but however when that pet dies, they will get another so they can have something to love and keep them company. They still love their pets with all their being. Love and emotions are new to Nolan. Debbie really got through to him on an emotional level, and it has only been 20 years, which is like a 3 day weekend compared to us.

I'm not going back to check and see if you cut and paste the entire thing, lol.
@metawolf98711 ай бұрын
Totally agree on the pet part. People are so pressed by that, but don't see that a Viltrumite's lifespan compared to a human is like a human's lifespan compared to a cat or dog. It is totally natural for a Viltrumite to consider a human a pet.
@caffeinedelusions11 ай бұрын
In the comics, Nolan was given a 500-year timespan to bring Earth into the empire. If humans hadn't bred so true with Viltrumites, he would've been able to work his way towards that over multiple generations, maybe even gotten himself legitimately elevated to the head of state for a one-world government and brought Earth into the Empire after hundreds of years of laying the groundwork of trust and bringing his children around to Viltrumite indoctrination. That 'What will you have after 500 years' question wasn't just Nolan picking an arbitrary number. Mark having full Viltrumite power changed that. It meant that Earth's integration into the Empire had to be expedited because the Viltrumite species needs the breeding stock to avoid extinction. They're right on the cusp of it. Numbers are dwindling. Similarly, in the comics, Kregg gave Mark an expedited 100-year timespan to bring Earth in, with regular check-ins on his progress. I feel like the show shortening that to 'get it done SOON' is actually an improvement in the storytelling, because you get the sense that Mark is on a much tighter clock.
@DonnaPinciot7 ай бұрын
I don't know how Viltrumite reproduction works (Beyond the obvious), but getting a near-full-power, 99% pure Viltrumite in the span of just 16-18 years? That's _nothing_ compared to their lifespan. They could _massively_ boost their population in the blink of an eye, relatively speaking. No wonder they're so eager.

So, as I mentioned in another video's comment section, I think the reason Eve is so devastated at the end of this episode is because that couple in the car (who probably didn't make it) didn't need to be collateral damage. That happened because Eve didn't finish the fight with Killcannon as soon as she could have, but rather spent precious time taunting him. It was her ego that caused that car to go over the bridge. Just as it was her ego (in trying to be seen as the savior, by creating that neighborhood park from the abandoned lot) which ultimately led to that collapse (which of course could've been much worse, with loss of human life).
@caffeinedelusions11 ай бұрын
One of the moments I love in Nolan's sequence is the way the lyrics line up with his halted suicide attempt and decision to save the Thraxan ship. At his lowest point, as his world and life were completely his own, the lyrics tell us "Your laws do not compel me now", and his immediate action as soon as he realizes that the Viltrumite Ideology of Might Makes Right is fundamentally flawed is to HELP THE HELPLESS. Then 'you who wish to conquer pain, you must learn what makes me kind' as he's making decisions about his future, and what kind of person he wants to be as an independent viltrumite. This is a person who pretended so hard at heroism that when he tried to take off the mask, he realized that it had become his face. When deconstructed to his very bones, who he became as Omni-Man proved MORE TRUE than who he had been as Nolan of Viltrum.

I’ve seen several people give this theory on why Nolan didn’t just try to conquer Earth immediately, but I wanted to reiterate it here. Nolan it seems like genuinely liked his life on Earth, I mean he wrote books and published them for the enjoyment of humans. He had a child. Something not many talk about is that Nolan kills the Guardians and starts his operation to destabilize it right after Mark gets his power. The theory pretty much states that he grew so attached to his family that he hoped Mark wouldn’t get any powers, therefore Nolan could just wait until Mark and Debbie died of natural causes to conquer Earth. I really like this theory, as Nolan’s reaction to Mark getting his powers is super serious for some strange reason.

I think as a race with huge longevity, their reproduction might be very slow. It's a plot point that often appears in works of fantasy and sci-fi where beings with lifespans spanning thousands of years appear - and while such beings are usually portrayed as peaceful - with slow reproduction sometimes being given as a direct reason why they consider life more sacred than fast living species - Viltrumites are extremely belligerent species. I think testing the biological value of the planet they are reconnoitering is obligatory for them. In other words, they *have to* wait and see if they can interbreed with locals and what's the result. Nolan speaks of his DNA like it's a weapon on its own merits. Also, who we are to tell, if "twenty Earth years" and "immediately" aren't essentially the same to them? Like, we wouldn't call a month too long to get good intel, and it might subjectively be how 20 years feel to a Viltrumite - a month. We can tell that Nolan had some feelings he didn't expect, but we assume it influenced his actions - while in reality we can't really tell if Nolan even slowed down his schedule at all.

There something so perfect about the way JK Simmons says "I know" when Lucan says Omni-Man deserves death. Either it means he knows he deserves death because he can't shake/is so torn about his Viltrumite heritage and upbringing and how he has failed his mission by not abandoning his post and fathering a child with what Viltumites would consider an "unworthy" species. Or because he is subconsciously just as torn about what he did to Mark and Debbie and that he feels guilty about what he did on Earth, as well as what he caused on this planet. Which is supported by his outburst at Mark about how he shouldn't feel the way he should. Or more accurately, it's probably both. Either way, there is such an honest and matter of fact way about that line delivery and line itself that's perfect.

The thing about Nolan is that even though he was indoctrinated as a brutal Viltrumite soldier, he really does not totally agree with their way of doing things. He wants people to accept and love him, thereby obtaining power and leadership through more pro-social means rather than conquest through violence. He seems to be at war with himself more so than anyone around him and fears losing those that care about him to the brutality of the other Viltrumites. When balked, he tends to fall back on the internalized beat it to death mode of the Viltrumites, but seems to wish he was not that way. The fact that he saved the damaged Thraxan ship just as he was about to self-delete via black hole, then was ready to simply fly away without expecting anything in return was an altruistic gesture... showing deep down that he really wants to be seen as a hero and good guy. That the Thraxans praised and accepted him, asking him to stay and become their leader meant more to him than he lets on. His time on Earth with Debbie helped him draw that side of himself out and changed him fundamentally when he realized that there were people that valued that side of his personality. The fact that he lives so long creates another rift among those that he cares about since the pain of their deaths has to be put in perspective and he has to move on to other relationships. He truly is a tragic character, not to be pitied, forgiven, nor to have excuses made for, but just to try to understand from an alien perspective.

in the comic, instead of soon, he says we'll check on Earth in 100 years, so most of the humans he is currently attatched to would pass of age by then, but that probably lighted the pace for the show, but it shows how long Nolan's original mission could have lasted. They didn't really want the Purge, it's more like the winners' rewriting the history of a Civil War, but since the Purge they use a small recon to scope out things like the Guardians and Cecil first.

Both Nolan and Debbie (Sarah Oh is way too good of a crier...) contemplated suicide here, though Nolan was actually about to let it happen by the looks of it. Though, Avalanche by Nick Cave with its sad piano tunes was a great song choice for Nolan's part. I love his struggles though. Obviously it doesn't justify or excuse what he did, ever. But even then a redemption in that he changes sides would still be preferable for everyone involved. And for us viewers I it gives us a good multi-layered character with some depth. His other kind are basically just imperialistic space Nazis. I think the couple in the car was supposed to look similar to her parents to draw that parallel of Eve's actions having consequences. Which is also why we see her visiting them at the end. As for Mark's half brother (who will choose his own name), I think he will likely age up quickly but then still live for a long time. Maybe not as long as Viltrumites but much much longer than humans. If it is true that Viltrumites can live up to 100.000 years then I would still expect many thousands of years here. I'm more vurious how long it will take for him to age up to a relevant fighting age. Unless that disemboweled guy followed them deeper into the cave and murdered them off camera before going back to Nolan and Mark. I highly recommend for you to react to Silo, which is a bit of an underdog at the moment because it is on Apple's streaming service, and Attack on Titan (subtitled), which just finished its last episode. Don't look up anything, and I really mean anything, from the latter though. This show is absurdly spoilery.

Came to find this channel thanks to your Invincible reactions and am thoroughly enjoying your pre and post reaction analyses. Curious though: would you be interested in reacting to Band of Brothers? Genuinely one of my favorite series of all time, and as I heard Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks are making another show in the same vain, then it might not be such a bad idea.

I read the comics and I refuse to spoil. I will however non spoiler talk about a behind the scenes sort of thing. The guy drawing the comic originally never had plans to write up a story where Omni-Man cheated on Debbie, but one of the guys was messing around and drew the picture of him making out with a bug. It got so much laughter out of the writer that he said to hang onto the drawing, they were going to use it in the comic somehow. He didn’t know how, but they would. Anyhow you’ve seen what you’ve seen so you know how it goes so far. They worked it in.

I don't think it's thelia that's the mole because the viltramites learned about Nolan before thelia did. The only people that knew were on the council for the coalition of planets and, after the ending, pretty clearly leads to thaddeus

@mbrooks199111 ай бұрын
@funnylilgalreacts I know the explanation Andressa (Nolan's bug wife) gave to Mark about her species/people life span being very short lived compared to humans and it's assumed Mark's brother life will be cut short but remember he has Nolan's genes as well which are far more dominant. Remember what Nolan told Mark from the previous season about his heritage even though he's technically half-human he's at the same time almost a full-blooded Viltrumite because Nolan's lineage is pure. I would say read the comics but that would be way to spoilery and counterproductive for this series especially going forward for what's to come.

I don't think *any* of those Viltrumites are dead. We've seen what Mark and Nolan can recover from in S1 - they can beat the absolute hell out of each other, but give them time, and they'll completely recover. So anyway, Viltrumite combat is legitimately terrifying. And we're only halfway through the season. Just what kind of insanity is coming after this?!
@caffeinedelusions11 ай бұрын
Vidor is a case of 'maybe'. Viltrumite regeneration is such that you need to damage the brain or the heart to really cause any kind of lasting harm (especially with the way their medical technology can enhance it), and having his skull shattered and his brain smashed might be more than he can recover from. I can't be sure, though. It's just possible that he could come back from that. The other two DEFINITELY will be back to form sooner rather than later.

Kirkman has a habit of demonizing or oversimplifying his black characters to make them hateable (something he also did in the comics disappointingly enough) but Theo was right.. from his POV.. look at how most people on social media act when a celeb or whoever is revealed to be a grapey POS suddenly everyone expects every guy who ever took a pic with them to just KNOW Weinstein or **insert metoo merchant here** was a monster..so it's reasonable for someone to be in disbelief that the wife and mother of this man's kids didn't know SOMETHING.. &as much as Nolan fooled EVERYBODY.. I think a part of Debbie's guilt is she DID know something was off deep down.. but she just ignored it because she had the fairytale life doting husband thriving career, &a good kid.. were all "guilty" of not asking toomany questions sometimes &When that has preventable consequences other people have a right to hold us in contempt of at the very least distrust.. cause that is also apart of THEIR healing process.

Maybe I misunderstood your opening, but I thought for sure _Thaedus_ just up and killed _Alan,_ by turning off his life support. As far as being the only one to like _Shapeshift/Rus Livingston,_ I don't think that is a stretch. I like him a lot too, and I'm sure a great many do as well. Afterall, we're not talking _Ramsey Bolton._

Why would Thadeus ask Allen to find the mole if he was the mole? Also, Allen has fought a lot of Viltrumites and still hasn't died. It's possible he was just in stasis, not dead, and Thadeus was bringing him back to fight again.
