Well, after living in Sweden for more than 7 years, I've already learned about all of these facts through my friends and internet. What is shocking is how beautifully and enthusiastically you present them. These facts show very great and special aspects of living in this wonderful country.

I had an OH THAT'S WHY moment with Offentlighetsprincipen but I'm still confused about how you guys imply GDPR *and* Offentlighetsprincipen. Also, I've been to most of the places where the solar system was set up but guess I gotta visit Sweden for the 5th time to actually see the planets! :D Love your videos

Thank you 😍 That is a great question about GDPR and Offentlighetsprincipen! I guess it is in the user agreement when you get the personal number 😂😂
@Elora4452 жыл бұрын
GDPR honestly didn't make much of a difference in Sweden. Mostly they became a bit harsher with the cut off period for publishing "folkbokföringen", I think.

I could only get my genealogy back to about the 1600's. the Swedish patronomy makes it impossible after a point. I am enjoying your learn Swedish videos. My wife and I are visiting Stockholm in August. My family is from Goteburg. I remember you talking about the rivalry between the two areas.

So happy to hear that you are enjoying our videos AND visiting Sweden in August. It is a great time to come to Sweden. If you want to learn more Swedish before coming we have some live coures starting in April. Here is the link elansutbildning.com/courses/ We also provide pre-recorded courses if you can't join the lessons due to the time difference. Here is the link to them elansutbildning.teachable.com/ P.S How nice that you have Swedish ancestry! There is some rivality between Stockholm and Göteborg but many Stockholmers also love Göteborg since most of us have family there (me included).

Singapore is another country with very low crime rates (including corruption) and with high public trust in the government, although whether said public trust is dropping or not, I'm not too sure👀 Generally, the reason why we have low corruption rates may or may not be due to transparency; it might also have something to do with the strict laws (regulations?) and our National Education/Social Studies lessons in school. I mean, we literally get tested on certain state affairs in GCSE O levels😬

Interesting! Here in Sweden we hear so many good things about Singapore. I would love to travel there someday :)

Open information about salaries and positions would be great for Americans, who are often underpaid compared to coworkers and don't realize it (workers' rights are crap here). We're even discouraged from talking to others about their salaries to protect employers who pay new employees more without raising older employees' pay. I've had to threaten to quit jobs just to get equal pay :(

I have seen this with some people that they get their personal information erased or hidden or something so that it's not accessible on those search sites. How can one do that? Can European Union's Article 8 - Protection of personal data be used?
@FunSwedish3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you can use that EU article. At least I have never heard about it. What you can do is to contact these pages so they take it down. Maybe these people you know did this? But it won't solve it 100 % since it is still considered to be public information in Sweden and will be available at Skatteverket for anyone who knows your personal number. The only way to get rid of the information (as we know) is if you have a protected identity. But for this you need to have a special permission from the Police.
@purpleicey3 жыл бұрын
@@FunSwedish Yeah well I had just come across the EU article a while back so I wondered if it could be used given that Sweden is in EU. Thank you for the suggestions! I wonder how celebrities do it though.
@FunSwedish3 жыл бұрын
@@purpleicey Glad the suggestions worked. Celebreties have their information public as well as long as they don't have got this special permission from the Police but to get it you must have some evidence that you are living under a threat. Otherwise, they won't give it to you. Not even to celebreties. Again, the argument for this law about public information it is that everything should be as transparent as possible. For everyone. Politics, celebreties and regular people. We should be able to know how much every one earns, pay in taxes and even live. So that it is easier to detect corruption (at least that is the argument). But I totally understand that it feels weird and scary, especially from a international point of view, since this would not be legal in other countries. It would be interesting to see if there is any case in Sweden where they have used that EU article and it worked.

I can promise you that there are much worse corruption in Sweden than Mona Sahlin buying cholate. More so at the local municipality level. Planning and permits for construction are often overridden, the coast line protection(Strandskydd) is also a topic were alot of corruption is happening. Its far from police corruption, but it still is a problem. Specially for protected areas like old "trädgårdsstäder"-areas.

I have a question about public information. How does it work for people who had been granted asylum? Does it mean that at any time some dictator's agents can just look up their victims online and find out where they live?

In these cases, if you are living under a threat, they will give you what we call "skyddadidentitet" protected identity and you should not be able to be find online.
