It could also just be a tie to her looking at their relationships since ashen relationships are (and I could be wrong, it's been a while since I've seen these terms used) kismesistudes, blood is tied to the heart which is used as the matespriteship symbol, and soot could be seen as auspisticizing their relationships. Or we're overthinking these and it's just a callback to her (and respectively The Disciple) drawing on the walls of her cave with whatever she could use

Nepeta's death is the one I can't accept, and not just because I simply like her and think she deserved better - I think like that about a lot of characters. But there's a reason why I can't understand it plot-wise. Look, Feferi and Sollux both had active classes and were Derse dreamers, so it was natural to expect them to act more proactively, go somewhere, do something, solve problems etc. That was their personal quests, the path to strenghten themselves, the path they chose to ignore while on the Veil meteor - for the most part they just lied on the pile of horns chattering and not caring about what was going on around. I don't judge them for that, but *the plot* does. So yeah, there's a reason for them ending up dead.. sort of. Equius died because, well, his personal quest as an Heir was to not get lost in his aspect, to not let himself dissolve in the Void - and he failed his task. Not that I judge him for that again, because, as an Heir myself, I can relate to him. But plot-wise his death was justified too. Eridan's personal quest as a Prince was to fight his own destructive tendencies and to not let himself go on the path of violence. He failed miserably, there's nothing else to say. He *could* become a better person, I'm sure of it, but he didn't. Thus a justified death. Vriska died because she failed to grasp the importance of listening to others and their advices. She deemed herself the most clever, strong, important and lucky girl in the Paradox Space, the one she obviously wasn't - 'cuz noone is. So, Terezi was right killing her to save everybody else. And then we have Nepeta, who 1) was quite mature as a person, once you think of it: she wasn't bitching about Karkat not loving her back and was friends with Terezi without being jealous, unlike Eridan, 2) was in good terms with her Aspect and had no internal conflict with it, 3) tried to save Equius, fulfilling her supporting role as a Rouge. So her death is the one that really had no sense, no matter how you look at it.

I think it had more to do with Gamzee as a passive class exerting a large amount of force rather than Nepeta and a good conclusion for her. Even when Gamzee is well... Gamzee. We can't discount that he *is* a character interacting with other characters. If Nepeta didn't attack Gamzee we would like her less and if Gamzee didn't kill her we wouldn't be as afraid of him. It was a trade-off for a satisfying end for one character and an unsatisfying end for the other.

I haven’t been into Homestuck for a very, very long time, but imo her death seems okay in my books. Sometimes you don’t need a grand reason to kill a character off, even if they do everything right and are a good person/troll. It’s a tragic ending that I can get behind and often like way more than just a character doing something wrong and therefore they die because of it.

Rant Incomt: When I first heard this song, I first thought it was all about her moiraligence with Equius, but then one line got me; "I don't have to argue, everybody knows you have issues, you lay your colors bare (in a matter of speaking). Like as many memes that came out of homestuck and how ridiculous it is, its really sad. Karkat was a loyal, caring troll but since that was looked down on he hid it with anger that pushed just about everyone away Aradia just fucking died, killed by her best friend and maybe morail when he was out of his mind with mind honey Tavros was lonely and in an abusive relationship that ended up paralyzing him Sollux hates the world and himself then killed his best friend when he was out of his mind Nepeta surrounds herself with shipping and such but cant get a matesprite herself because people see her as weird Kanaya is so busy helping everyone else she forgets to take care of her own needs Terezi was blinded by her scourge sister and isn't able to do what she desperately wants to Vriska wants to live up to her ancestor and she always feels like she has to livd life exactly how she did or shes not worth it Equius is lonely and isolated due to his strength. Everyone thinks hes weird and avoids him except for nepeta Gamzee was abandoned by his lusis and literally has to stay high to be happy Eridan is in an unhealthy relationship with Feferi (both of them are abd for eachother) and is the one highblood with no one to keep him from going off the fucking rails Feferi is desperate for a better, kinder future but seems unable to ever attain it. She cant even handle Eridan's issues, much less the entirety of the highblood ruling caste All the kids (minus John and Jane really) have absent or abusive caretakers, callie is stuck with an evil abusive twin whom she shares a body with- AND THATS NOT EVEN COUNTING WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE DAMN COMIC- THATS JUST THE CHARACTER SET UP

As much as I recommend homestuck, I admit it has many issues. The length is daunting to those who want to get into it, the beginning is incredibly boring, and the fandom can be..... yeah. Get into it if you want, for me at least, it took me two weeks to finish.

To be fair. Some verses can refer to Karkat. Such as... "you wear your colors bare" "I'll be there when you finally decide to bare your heart, it's the part I want to share." PhemieC does a really good job at portraying characters. This song is one of my favorites!!
