Furina: The Most Compelling Character in Genshin Impact

What hit me really hard during the trial was right before Neuvilette handed out Furinas verdict. As the screen went dark, the people that was closest to her, Neuvilette and the Traveler, turned their back on her. At that moment she must of felt she lost everything and all that 500 years of suffering was all for nothing. So sad 😭

What I love about Furina’s quests (Archon and Story) is that a lot of the details aren’t spoon-fed to the viewer. It really exposes who actually paid attention haha. She really needs a quest where she takes a trip outside Fontaine and meets all the other Archons, even if she doesn’t know who they are. I’d love for her to debate about statecraft with Zhongli and sing with Venti or discuss dreams with Nahida or learn basic fighting from Ei. Bonus points if she doesn’t know who they are at first (because I don’t think she’s ever physically met any of them lol) and has this “EH?!?!?!” comedy moment. I’d also love a quest where we just take her doing casual commissions like jumping on mushrooms or finding Neko’s cats. Let her have some fun, because so far I think the only time she’s had genuine, no doomsday-thoughts fun, was singing in the Little Oceanid. (I haven’t played the new event yet so don’t spoil it pls).

loved your analysis! i like your interpretation that furina's cry-laugh was more than just her reaching her breaking point but also a show that her act and her true self had become one entangled mess. and i couldn't help but got a little sad remembering that the one thing that had furina kept her act to the end was because she didn't want the people of fontaine to pay the price. it's no exaggeration to say that as a human herself, her love for humanity is as deep as the ocean itself T_T

Something that's beautiful about Furina's story is that there's so much that's not explicitly said, and that leaves so much room for interpretation. In doing so, that space gives room for so many of us to connect and relate to her. I loved hearing your thoughts!

Furina really made me break my no-whaling rule. Between the Archon quest and her story quest, she's not just the most compelling character in Genshin but really exceptionally written among media/literature in general. I connect so much with her pain; I think most people can profoundly connect with the experience of not having the space to be human because of the weight of expectations. She deserves the world (and her signature weapon and the best artifacts farming can buy).

One thing that stood out to me was the Magic box "scene" in Furinas inner world. Many people were distraught when we betrayed her trust back then, but not only did that scene give another showcase of her resolve to keep up her act, with the new context showing it was the right decision from her perspective, but it also showed that, as much as we despised having to do it, that cruel trial truly was a necessary evil.

It does make me feel slightly less awful about our actions in that scene. I'm one of the people who felt crippling guilt after betraying her trust like that 😅 she wouldn't have told us either way, but I do still feel pretty bad about it.

One thing I found interesting is in her trial she claims that she gave up all her divine powers for the sake of her people and that the primordial sea might be able to effect an archon, with her being Focalors human half the first part is true and we have no way of knowing what would happen to Focalors if hit by primordial sea water just as Furina said

You know, I thought the exact same thing! I remember saying that she had a good/valid point as I was doing my playthrough of Act V, but then no one else in-game seemed to think so lol XD

Your Furina cosplay looks really fitting. Since the Moon are the reason the water levels also rise or fall. SYMBOLISM. I think it's important to remember that Furina acted this manner was because of the poeple of Old Fountaine, you can basically hear them sneering or looking down on Furina saying that a God should be pristine and untouchable, and she took those points to heart.

The torture she has to endure for her people. She was the most unlikable/likeable character I've seen in Genshin. One of the best, if not the best character development. Edit: this is why the quote "You should not judge a book by its cover" stands very true

Hearing you reading a script is a very different vibe, but I’m all hear for it. Getting to hear your thoughts expanded on more than you can do in the moment is very welcome. Furina is definitely one of my favorite characters now, and I love how they set everything up. The only thing I wish they did differently with Furina is having the traveler not constantly push her boundaries in the story quest.

I like what the quest did for her character, and I think it had a lot of good thematic aspects, but I was also bothered by us guilt tripping her and pushing her boundaries, regardless of our intentions (I do think we had good intentions, but that doesn't justify the way we handled it).

What I love the most about Furina's character is the vibe that she gives when you meet her for the first time flips upside down when you finish her story Furina's characteristics changes when your prospective change about her, they tried before with the shogun, but they failed to make it understandable but by turning down the tone they managed to give us one of well written characters in Genshin Do I have problems with Fontaine Archon quests? Yes, I do have a lot, but I can say confidently that Furina's character gets 10/10 as a character, well written with fabulous closure to her journey (the exact opposite to Nahida's which is understandable they gave her room to grow as a new archon and considering Sumeru's theme is growth I think they have chosen the right decisions for both characters, but I still find it funny) :)

The beauty of Furina's story for me is that it perfectly captures the feeling of Autistic masking without necessarily existing to be an allegory for it. Having to be Autistic in a Neurotypical world feels like a personal hell that is impossible to escape. Whenever you try to express your true self and emotions, you find yourself rejected over and over and over again because it breaks social norms somehow, so in order to survive socially you have to mask and constantly make an effort to act normal. It's a very lonely thing for any human to experience because you want to be your full self, but you have to supress parts of yourself for respect and approval in society, and Furina's story really captures it somehow. Especially how nobody ever seems to see your struggles or loneliness as a High-Functioning Autistic person.🖤💜

didn't expect an analysis video from a vtuber, but it's a nice change of pace! I do notice that your narration sounds... narrated, not from the choice of words, but due to the rhythm of your speech. I agree that the character writing for Furina has been the best so far in the series, and she is my first ever 5* C2 character. My savings for C2 Nahida and C2 Raiden went into Furina! Fontaine isn't combat oriented, and they've focused almost entirely on character development of the playable characters. The Traveller really hasn't evolved much, and I suppose that is also indicated by the absolutely awful Hydro Traveller! lol. Frankly, this style suits the game more I feel. The combat for anyone playing for a few months is just trivial in the overworld.... feels more impactful to have all the questions start to get answered after 3 years. On an unrelated note, there is such a change between the first 11 mins 40 seconds and the rest of the video. Almost made me wonder if there are two people! While I prefer the regular style of videos, I can understand why you went down this route. The usual style is chaotic and more abrupt, while this style has you draw out words at the end of every sentence. lol. Still a great video and almost felt like a condensation of all your thoughts of your playthrough! Looking forward to your playthrough. Hope you actually go through the world quests as well, as there's SO much lore in there that sadly isn't voiced and people skip it.

Furina truly is amazing! Just such a well written and thought out character. I love that they took the time to focus on characters and story throughout Fontaine. I think it was a really good decision. ​@@himetsukich The professionalism just caught me off guard a tad. It was a different side to your content and it was fun! There's a world quest in Sumeru desert from a character called Jeht. I don't know if you played it or followed that storyline, but it is possibly the third best storyline after Fontaine and Sumeru's Archon quests. A video for that would be amazing. Maybe a poll to see if others would be interested in Jeht world quest and Ruu's world quest in Inazuma might give you more insights into if you should invest time into it. Even if you don't do the video, I hope you play through it. Def worth the time you invest into those!

Personally I like the way she got her vision - by truly freeing herself from her past. She realized that although she doesn't resonate with her archon facade, she does still have a passion for performance and she shouldn't limit her human experience just because of what her 500 years as an archon was like. To truly live as a human was what both Furina and Focalors craved most, and for Furina, performance and the human connection that comes with it is what makes her feel truly human. There were definitely different ways the quest could've started; maybe Traveler and Paimon could've backed off sooner once Furina made her choice clear, maybe we could've seen Furina have the longing to perform and yet felt compelled to avoid it because of what she endured for 500 years and have the traveler and paimon give her a supportive gentle push towards pursuing that. I didn't like how the quest started, but I still feel the way the quest ended was solid.

@@SunSun-sk4si yeah the start of the quest is honestly what really bothered me , i understand more the way she got her vision butI feel like it was too rushed and I think it would have been better to separate the quest in 2 acts the first one focusing on furina’s struggles overcoming the trauma of those 500 years of acting, the traveler could’ve helped her get through this and gain back her confidence, and the second act could’ve shown us furina fully freeing herself from her past and embrace her passion.

That's valid. I get why a lot of people didn't like her story quest. I personally enjoyed it for what it was, but I agree that I didn't like how Paimon and Traveller kept pushing Furina and guilt tripping her. I think the intention was good, but that still doesn't justify our lack of respect for her boundaries. That being said, I think the story quest does accomplish some important things for Furina's character, primarily the way she goes from having repressed her humanity to then finding an outlet through which she can express her humanity with theatrical performance. It definitely could have been better, though. I wish we'd seen just a brief glimpse of Neuvi in the audience during her performance, and I also would have preferred Furina made the choice to perform, rather than being placed in a situation where she felt forced to. I think that would've been more meaningful for her.

Great performance! I think you don't need imitate "professional style". You have wonderful voice and diction to speak more naturally even in such videos. Little fact about Ficalors. She bet on humanity, while forcing Furina to abandon it. As a result, Focalors never saw what her life would have been like had she lived like a human being.
