In hindsight no…just the rules say to setup the game as a 2p game and didn’t point out that distinction…but clearly they do not need/get a startup card

On turn 4 you paid 3 Coal to outbid Red's 4. As a result Red gained 4 points in Compensation instead of the 3 they would have scored for having the card in their tableau! So it cost you 3 Coal to give Red 1 extra point. A small thing, but...

Ah,I see somebody made that observation in live chat. Red seems brutal: they are always going to, as a minimum, score 3 Compensation per turn, plus 6 points _cumulative_ per turn, more if you don't contest their 2 and 1 bids. Contesting Red for cards in the early game is more important than in the late game (a turn 1 card is 12 points, a turn 4 card is 3 points)
