Quick furniture flip with this old coffee table someone was throwing out. You know what they say, ones mans trash is another mans treasure!
Supplies:
TSP for cleaning.
Copper Spray paint for the base.
Weaverly Chalk Paint on the top
(Several shaded of blues and greens)
Epoxy/Resin
Epoxy Candy Shimmer Inks and Mica Powders
Sander and 60 grit sand paper if you end up needing to sand drips.
Use code VickiShares (case sensitive) when making a purchase at www.epoxycandy.com and they’ll throw in an extra goody or two! The more you buy, the more you get!

Hi Vicki! I love the finished product, super beautiful! Amazing transformation into the finished piece! Still, I wouldn't call it a trash to treasure project, since the starting table didn't exactly belong in a landfill. Great job though!! Thanks for sharing 🤩

Nice piece. I'm on the road to getting better & there is so many videos to see but what I dont find enough is how to sell a piece after you've made it. Did this sell? / How ? I should look into Diamond, I've mostly used Stone coat and another out of phoenix a few years ago. I like stone coat for it's high temp after cure and long working time.

Could you explain the drying process? How do you get it to dry properly?
@vickisvisions
@vickisvisions Ай бұрын
@@nicolecompogno7996 Epoxy doesn’t technically dry, it cures. In order to get a good cure There are several steps you should follow. 1) Always mix your epoxy EXACTLY as the manufacturer instructions state. If you don’t use the proper ratio of resin to hardener, don’t mix for as long as the instructions say, or don’t switch buckets half through mixing (only if the instructions say to), you will likely not have a good cure. 2) Make sure your room temperature is a Minimum 70F but warmer than that is better. I prefer 75-85F depending on how quickly i want the epoxy to cure. 3) you need to let it cure in a very clean and dust free environment. If your project is small enough to put in a box with a lid, this will help prevent airborne contaminants from landing in your epoxy during the curing process. If your project is too big for that, then make sure you do a very thorough deep clean from top to bottom in the room you will be working in. Turn off all fans. If you have heat going , shut it off and use a portable radiant heater to keep the room warm, If you have A/C on turn it off. You want as little air movement as possible and you need a warm room anyway for a good cure. 4) Also, to keep bubbles out of your finish, you can use a heat gun or torch to pass over the source carefully about every 15-20 minutes for the first 1 1/2 hours of the curing. be careful not to scorch you work, always keep the torch/heat gun moving and at least a few inches away from the surface.

@vickisvisions
@vickisvisions Жыл бұрын
Total cost for paint, pigments, epoxy , etc, if you have to Purchase everything new because you don’t already have some, you could spend over $100 . But you’d have enough left over to probably do one or two more coffee tables. So cost will depend on if you already have some supplies to begin with.

@vickisvisions

Cleaning with TSP removes all the grease and grime and a lot of the previous finish had already been worn away. The epoxy I used also would prevent any peeling paint.

@@andreabutler3201 you can either do a scuff sand so the epoxy adheres to the lacquer, or strip the lacquer completely. Personally I’d probably just do a scuff sand.

How much resin did you require for this table? And if you apply clear resin on table will it give a glass like finish?
@vickisvisions
@vickisvisions 3 жыл бұрын
This table surface is approximately 8 sq ft. I used 64oz for each layer. (A total of 128 oz for two layers) And yes, clear over the top would give a glass like finish.
@Bound4Earth
@Bound4Earth 2 жыл бұрын
Apoxy just like any plastic can be buffed out to appear like glass, just don't ever apply any heat of any realistic kind and it isn't resilient against cups or plates, etc, so use coasters.

1 gallon epoxy/resin $65 Chalk paint , Spray paint, Alcohol inks, & Mica powders. $50 TSP $11 The coffee table was free. And technically, I had all the paints and pigments leftover from other work so I didn’t need to buy any of them for this project. You might also need to purchase painters tape/plastic sheeting, gloves, buckets, stir sticks, and paper towels. But I had those things already as well.
