Love the redo of the little secretary. It's such a pretty color and the stencil over the wood grain is just perfect. Those phallic columns on either side of the little door are cheap versions of what they're like on better quality secretaries. I have a tall version (with glass doors like one of the ones you showed early in the video) that my mother bought probably in the 50s -- but she always bought furniture second-hand so it was likely made in the 30s. The columns are much more intricately carved and not at all phallic. And they hide clever "secret" compartments -- you pull them out and they are actually the front for little narrow boxes to hold valuables. I used to love playing with them when I was a child.

This wall paper or a similar dacoupage paper would have been amazing on the front of the desk instead of the the stencils! That would have been bold and different! I mention the decoupage paper since there are available at large sizes or maybe a tranfer with vibrant colors and flowers or birds. I love your work. I appreciate your sence of humor. I didn't think I was going to like it but....I was wrong! I love it. Stenciling should complement a piece instead of coating it. This certainly does.

LOVING THIS. Love the color (very popular right now too), love the stencil and the raw, laquered (?) wood - really makes the piece pop as it also complements the green. Good you took off the plinths, not just because they are phallic but also, they really date the piece. Like the sea shell left behind (which I like), and the cubbies too - but a person could have the option to pull all that out if they wanted to! I thought for a minute you were going to remove the door and make it an open case, but for small apts., this drop down minnie desk for writing with strorage cubbies and OMG - drawers for more storage, is very saleable I think. People need a lot of storage per sq ft in apts and also, flat space to set things on... just sayin'. And this would fit in any home. About the asking price - I live in an expensive city. Cheapest haircut is $80 before tip and takes less than an hour. and is ephemeral. In that light, here we have a permanent, useful, beautiful piece of furniture that will last years. Real furniture v pressed wood etc. The labor rounded was prob around 24 + hours? At the rate of the stylist, say $96, x 24 would be more than the 2K case from Anthroplogie for labor alone. With costs to cover, I say you are well in the ball park for a fast sale to folks who are used to things being expensive and have no place or tools to do what you just did and want real furniture with lots of storage. Compared to the HUGE markup of Anthropolgie's bookcase - even marked down 50%, one would pay 1K, your chest is a steal. Beautiful piece...I am inspired.

That's funny about the plinths, I hadn't even noticed until you pointed it out :), does look better without them though. The desk looks great, love the color, olive green is my 2nd favorite color. I also like that you kept the top the original wood look. Still not a fan of stenciling, though you did a great job with it.
