He lives round the corner from me and was in the Green party (a political party in the UK) with my dad in the 80s. A coincidence I came across this video and you only posted today! Yet to read the book but The Watchmen is one of the greatest graphic novels of all...

I would like to read it! I know he hated the HBO Watchmen series, but I kind of liked it. At that point I did not know much about him. Glad you came across this video! I heartily recommend listening to Vance reading it. (Eventhough he doesn't have Moore's distinct regional inflections!).

@@thegrimmreader3649 The series had little to do with the book but I've heard good things. I have the book of Jerusalem on my shelf ready to be read, so I'll have to hear it in my own voice when I get around to it! :) I look forward to it...

Watchmen is indeed great, but it trades heavily on an understanding of superhero tropes. For a non-comic reader looking for an Alan Moore comic to explore, I’d pick From Hell (about Jack the Ripper) or V for Vendetta (a commentary on facism), as they are based on more common knowledge topics.

@@maxducoudray Not read that one, but good shout!

Thank you Cathie for posting this review. Jerusalem sounds fascinating. Sounds like you are having a really wonderful reading experience. I found the Vance audiobook on Spotify and am looking forward to giving it a try soon.

Thank you so much for this incredible review!! The topics the book delves into are of great interest to me, but I've been really intimidated by it. I assumed that the large number of ideas and thought exercises presented would be difficult to wade through, but your review makes me feel like it's totally accessible if you take your time with it. You've also given me some points to focus in on, as well. Awesome review!! 💜

Great video. I’m a fan of Jerusalem. Have you read Voice of the Fire? That’s my favourite.

I will definitely read it at some point: I'm almost finished with Jerusalem, what a work of genius!!

@@thegrimmreader3649 it’s a lot harder to start than Jerusalem with the first chapter being especially difficult but when it clicks it’s amazing. It’s about the Burroughs too and takes place over a long period of time

How are you doing mrs Cathie . I didn’t send comments to you from long time. Iam Arabic lady subscriber to several British and American KZbin channels. I have great news I want to share with you and all channels Iam subscriber to. Iam going to be English teacher in academy improving plan for weak students. I passed written exam just, few errors, but remains of me oral interview to be officially employed. This achievement due to your efforts you encouraged me to read and learn. I gathered main theme of book you mentioned and author biography briefly here it’s Alan Moore is British author known for his work in comic books such as watchmen , v for vendetta. He considered as one of best comic writers in English language. He also novelist , short story writer, musician, cartoonist , magician, occults . Jerusalem plot summary it’s exploration of both present and past( not mentioned possible future ) of his home town Northampton, England. Moore posts and afterlife where dimensions are different, dead can travel through time . Just as we can travel from physical place to another. Thank you for your wonderful cultural literary channel. Best wishes for you your dearest ones .
