What a fantastic top 14! So many I want to read. I did just start Jerusalem a few days ago and it's fantastic so far. Moore pulls the reader in right from the beginning and I can't wait to see where it goes. I'm a huge Simon Vance fan so I'm listening as I read the physical book. Happy New Year!

Your discussion of “Nicholas Nickelby” reminded me of seeing the televised play featuring Roger Rees in the 1980’s. It ran as (4) two hour segments for 4 consecutive nights. My whole family loved it. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the novel so much. Nicholas Nickleby seems to be discussed less frequently than most of the other Dickens novels. “Money” by Zola sounds like a novel I would enjoy. Previously, I have enjoyed a few Zola novels. “Radetzky March” is seldom mentioned on Booktube. However, “Ritual of Reading” created a beautiful location video related to “Radetzky March”, I think she filmed in Austria. “Stoner” by John Williams and “Long Island” by Colm Toibin were my two favorite novels. Best wishes for good health and happy reading in 2025!

Thank you so much! I loved "Stoner" too. Might try the Toibin. The Roth video is delightful! I really did not think I would like Nicholas Nickleby as much as I did!

I think it's ok to not overthink it too much: simply based on how enjoyable and memorable. That seems to work for me. Also helps that I'm working with a fairly manageable number.

for some reason I actually like ranking them: it's just how my brain works.

Interesting list - thanks for sharing. I've been skeptical about Jerusalem by Moore but I'll give it a second look.

you might like it? it is steeped in English "stuff". (history, politics etc.)
