For those wondering, this is not how most ambushes went to stop a column. The most known example I can think of was Michael Wittman's ambush at Villers-Bocage in Normandy. He first took out the leading vehicle, then the vehicle in the back of the column, then take out as many in the chaos. Edit. What pissed me off about this scene the most, was when I paused to take a look at the rank of the Tiger's commander. The commander was waffen ss (black uniform, eagle of the left sleeve, and of course the ss runes on his right collar.) But take a look on the symbol on his left collar. It was the symbol of a hauptsturm führer, which was the SS equivalent of a captain. No way in hell would a captain be so green.

Perhaps ignorance on the directors part? Or over confidence on the "captains" part? Lol

Isn’t that just Tuetoburg and lake tresamae all over again. Take out the front hit the rear than flank the column taking advantage of the chaos of the March of line.

Yes but not every Tiger had a Michael Wittman as their Panzer commander and veteran crew.

@@kickinwinghotboi883 basic combat tank combat u don’t just swivel your turret when he’s flanking you angle your armor front towards him. Also you can obviously see that was the move. Cmndr of Tiger should have kept moving reverse and angling his front towards the Sherman. U don’t just swing a turret side and let your side exposed without moving. The easy 8 should have exploded with the side shot. That armor is overmatched easily and logs wouldn’t do much to slow that shell at that range. Yes unrealistic. Also the rear had too much time to take one shot into the Sherman. Idk why the tiger delayed 1 shot that range would tear straight through the tank and prob set it on fire immed. And as for unit waffen ss aren’t anywhere near that sloppy. Although u may have to give maybe some realism as a lot of tank crews were green end of war. I’m not sure a tiger 1 would be sitting with no support but meh maybe. A lot of tanks and mechanized were ordered to defend Berlin. Only remnants after the crossed the river into Germany remains
@jecrpalier10 ай бұрын
@@MWolfe1080 don’t forget those tanks all sights were analog. Not a modern point and shoot with compensation for movement as turrets bounced a lot. No built in stabilizers. Yeah but not bad realism. Would have been more fun you add a firefly to the column. Although they were prime targets. 17pndr would have cracked that tiger 4in armor front enough

the sherman brad was comanding was a rare type of sherman that had a 76mm cannon instead of a standard 75mm cannon so when the first sherman was taken down, if fury would have hit its mark the fight would have ended. at 800 meters the 76 would have no problem punching though the tigers armour

@@co8783 The trials were conducted without HE filler and against US armor plates, which were softer than German armor. The HE filler in the AT rounds had a tendency to detonate on impact and cause the round to shatter. Even without the HE filler the relatively low quality of the standard rounds meant that the rounds would often shatter, even if they according to the trials should have gone through.

Old Phyllis also had a 76mm gun. The Tiger also wasn't Germany greatest accomplishment in tank design, not in 1942, not in 1945 either. It was expensive and too complex, lacking reliability, which is why they couldn't make more. It was a great propaganda weapon though, and in that regard it may be working even more successfully nowadays than during the war, even though the myth of the Tiger gradually dies thanks to Internet. Still a very beautiful piece of machinery.
@TTTT-oc4eb3 жыл бұрын
What was a "greater German accomplishment in tank design" in 1942? It was never meant to be produced in large numbers. Just 1376 were ordered, and about 1350 were produced. The same with the Tiger 2 - 1500 ordered, but most of them were destroyed on the factory floor by heavy bombers. It was not unreliable - that was mainly allied propaganda. Tiger crews claimed their Tigers were quite reliable - as long as proper maintenance could be undertaken. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHPRmmSEmZ54sJo

Also realise it was for the more veteran tankers as a lot of crewmembers lost their lives on the Eastern front.
@Niitroxyde3 жыл бұрын
@@SergioKoolhaas It's not much that it *was* for veteran tankers but more that with a tank that expensive, you wouldn't let anyone drive it, so veterans were primary choices obviously. At the very end of the war, when barely any experienced crews remained, they indeed assigned the most heavy and expensive vehicles to newbies, be it Tiger or Jagdtiger even, who did very poorly with them. One of such examples is the Schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 512 led by Otto Carius during the defense of the Rhine in 1945 comprised of a mix of inexperienced crews, whether because complete newbies or because regular tank crews that haven't been trained properly on Tank Destroyers. Although their orders certainly didn't help either.

Yes a Sherman Firefly that 76 mounted on it now made it a formidable tank against a Tiger but with out a veteran crew and a good tank commander it could be destroyed easliy.

You're mistaken. Easy 8 Shermans and M4A1 (76), M4A2 (76) and M4A3 (76) could pierce Tiger's front from 700-800m, Other shermans with 75 could go through tiger's side at 500m and Firefly could pen Tiger's front from more than 1km. Also tiger tanks or any other we never all alone. They were in platoons (3-5 tanks). Also tiger tanks were very rare. From 1942-1944 Germany produced only circa 1300 tiger I tanks. The only units equipped with those were SS panzer divisions, special heavy tank batallions and Grossdeutschland division

There are so many problems in this scene! First: WWII German tank ace Otto Karius said in an interview that whenever he encountered a column of enemy tanks, he always aimed for the leader first, then the last, and so the others were pinned down, then it was clear carnage.... Other: Why did the tiger come out of hiding? It was at a perfect distance for the 88 mm gun, and the Tigers are known for accurate hits from over 2 kilometers, especially at Kursk and Prokhorovka.... There was no point in going out of the bushes, it is very clear that M4s are faster maneuverable than the tiger.! And yet, it's like a movie, and even if they had followed the realistic scenario, the movie would have ended there.😂
