When a belt fed MG overheats you end up with cookoff and the only way to interrupt it is to break the belt.
@shane99ca2 жыл бұрын
@@pabooth88 You're talking about a hangfire, not a cookoff. That's why if you pull the trigger on the firing range and nothing happens, you're supposed to keep the muzzle pointed downrange for 30 seconds in case you have a hangfire. Any machine gun, or indeed any self-loading gun, will start cooking off if the chamber gets hot enough, especially if it fires from a closed bolt, which means the heat can't dissipate as quickly. Although by the time the gun is that hot, it's pretty much trashed anyway.

Former 19k (M1A2 Armor Crewman) here. The communication they're using here is outstanding and is still used today. When the loader loads the round and yells "Up" - he is telling the gunner that the breach is loaded and armed. Before the the gunner fires, he yells "On the way" which is communicating to the TC (tank commander). The TC is finding targets and pointing them out to the gunner. This is the exact same as modern tankers work. Same lingo, same terms. As some people ask "Why not leave the tank when it's disabled". A tankers motto is: Death before Dismount. Having been deployed to Iraq in my Abrams, this statement holds true as the sun. When you're deployed and all you have are the 4 people in that tank, and you are in that tank nearly 24 hours a day; it's not just your tool, but your home, your family. The bonds you develop with the crew and the tank itself is something deeper than most people know. I didn't see this movie for a very long time. I do try to avoid movies like this for personal reasons, and I had to very gingerly step into. (Watching almost all clips, and then finally watching the movie). This movie is by far the best representation of what happens (as far as commands and communication) inside the tank. As far as everything else, mostly movie drama. I am only commenting on the realistic communication that happened inside the tank, the emotional connection to other crewmates, and the tank itself. By the way, if an Abrams was in that same spot. It would be good game, and game over for the Nazis. :) Anyway, know that you are loved, and cared about.

Only reason I can think of for the use of an MG was to try to knock out the Shermans periscopes and main gun sights. If you can't penetrate the tanks armor, try to blind it. Tactically yeah but practically maybe not. Now you have to be more accurate. If you fuck up you waste more ammo. And we can already see they can't exactly aim the turrets. More like hip firing through a peep hole. Just my opinion though. I could see an initial attack of spraying into them on the road from a distance since they're bunched up and then waiting for them to get to the distance they are in the movie for more accurate shots though.
@clamcrewcarclub60173 жыл бұрын
@@ethansmith5560 they were all walking in formation directly down the road in front of them, they could have taken out an entire line of guys and the first truck with one 76MM shell, and you wouldn’t really need to aim the MG’s because they were so bunched up. A lot of people give the Germans a hard time here for not dealing with one tank easily, and I agree that it would normally be easy pickings for a force of this size. However, there are a number of factors to consider. The initial surprise caught the Germans completely by surprise and probably killed that commander in the first volley which shocked the Germans into going for cover which pushed them away from Fury. Another thing to consider is that these Germans troops, while most certainly veterans and well equipped, had spent a better part of the last few months in a nonstop fighting retreat and were probably exhausted from marching, fighting, and being poorly fed and rested. and exhaustion can do a lot of things to even the most veteran of units. What’s more, they were reluctant to break out their only anti-tank weapons (panzerfausts) to take down one simply tank though it became apparent that it was necessary. Remember, the Germans were planning to fight a lot more troops after Fury and their want to conserve their best resulted in them making stupid decisions that got many of their men killed.

(Less reaction time for the enemy and keeps the element of surprise to your side) This is basically what the Japanese did during the Battle of Iwo Jima. If the Germans in D-Day started firing the moment the allies landed, the Japanese allowed the Marines to build up on the beach and to get closer before opening fire.

Only thing I can think of for in-film reasons is that if the tank had the burning body and such but no boxes of ammo or such outside, one of the soldiers coming up to it may have gotten curious/suspicious and called it out to the officer, maybe spoiling the ambush. @Rabbit T. the verses he mentioned are out of context, for example in 2 Kings this is the part were Israel was ruled by wicked kings, this is not God's Will. I know there isn't any questions about this, but I'll just put it here, when God ordered the Israelites to punish(in the Bible it says wipe out, but the Canaanites are still there.) the Canaanites it was judgement for the wickedness they did.(Human sacrifices and such.) Don't get me wrong, God also punished the Israelites, through the Assyrians and Babylonians. (When they have this cycle of disobedience-repentance-disobedience.) I really suggest for you to read it, for some it's a mythical book, for some "great stories there bro." But I really insist on not cherry-picking the verses where the gruesome parts can be found, but read the chapters preceding it. Thank you for reading this far.
