Hi there! This is the easiest explanation I can find so far! THANK YOU! I can now understand how it works in the refinery but I am still confused on certain points. You mentioned that the fractions from the residue are *fuel oil* used in power stations and etc. Q1 - Is that *fuel oil* the same as the nuclear fuel used to produce heat to power turbines? Q2 - Is petrol short for Petroleum? Q3 - Is petrol and gasoline the same? (Petrol is used in British English while Gasoline is used in American English?) Q4 - Is petrol / petroleum the same as fuel? If so, what are the difference between the fuel from the residue and the petrol/petroleum/fuel that is used for car. I read an article somewhere that was about "fuel oil crisis" in Asia when the oil crisis happened back in 70s. I looked it up. Some (Quora, not sure if it's reliable. Still can't be clear about it after reading the answers) claimed that petroleum is fuel while there was one guy said they are a tad bit different from each other but same usage. I also found this website that states "Petroleum products are fuels made from crude oil." Here's the link - www.eia.gov/energyexplained/oil-and-petroleum-products/ Sorry for all these silly questions! I really hope you would reply me before I pluck all my hair and eyebrows out to just figure this out lol. Thanks so much! :)

I think I know some of the answers. 2. Actually, petrol and petroleum are different things. Crude oil is also called petroleum. So, petroleum is actually the viscous liquid found beneath the earth which is then refined. Petrol is a product obtained after the refining (fractional distillation) of petroleum (or crude oil). 3. Yes, petrol and gasoline are the same things. I am pretty sure about it. The term 'petrol' is used in UK, India and a few other places, while 'gasoline' or 'gas for short' is used in the United States.

The kerosene probably has some additives to stop it from freezing? Kerosene itself is closer to diesel, and as far as I know they freeze easier than gasoline. But then there is additives mixed in them to make them stand colder temperatures.

Good video. A few issues - Propane, Butane and other bottled gases do not come from a crude fractionation tower - bottled gases come from Hydrocrackers, Gas plants or Alkylation units which are downstream of crude fractionation units. Neither does petrol or gasoline, petrol is a blend of different hydrocarbon components coming from various parts of a refinery.
