You are almost right. Strictly speaking,Urushi-hake has human hair, it's not the bristle. The length of the hair is one-third of the brush. There is the Urushi-hake has hair all length of the brush, but I don't use them. Because, they are too expensive and I can't use them up till the last.

What is the reason for using nori-urushi at all? I guess it is to (1) provide a solid core at the base of the hairs to provide some stiffness, but also (2) to prevent harder urushi from soaking down into the hake? Also, is that a simple detergent in the small bottle or some other kind of solvent? Thanks for your time and consideration.

I'm guessing the bristles go all the way inside the brush, and you can sharpen it again several times, like a pencil ?

Why does the hair start off hard together? Is it some sort of gum?

What was that liquid you used before hammering it? Does that melt the Urushi or something?

The hair of brush was hardened by Nori-urushi. Because it's easy to use for painting the lacquer. Please watch how to make the brush(Urushibake).
