Good tutorial, BUT , the most important is to avoid lateral collision between collet and stock ! In certain angles and high of material is to check the angle between the middle diameter tool and the collet marginal side , only after this you could machine the stock, otherwise you will damage the material and collet. To conclude, before do this operation is to check the angle between tip of the tool and marginal side of the collet on separate design.

Could patch have been used to hide the cutouts? That would seem a fairly quick fix.

Yes, that should work 👍

What about Model option in 2nd tab - maybe would be better to add there patch surface to not corrupt CAM origin in setup ?

I was working of a step file, could not just roll back and patch it up... And if I can I don't know how to about it yet..

@@gracjanlada4622 You can anyway create patch offset ( even if you have some holes on that face ) and then modify patch body using extend command for example. Then include this patch as a part of model ( or in the setup or in the 2nd tab of contour tool path ).

Out of interest why are you using the ball endmill surfacing vertically instead of horizontally? Does it give a better finish?
@danl.4743

I was about to ask the same thing. Looks more logical to do it horizontally.
@G53X0Y0Z0
@G53X0Y0Z0 4 жыл бұрын
I would personally do a horizontal tool path. I would also use a larger ball mill if I had the option, and make one roughing pass with a larger step over before the finish pass. But to each their own.

I think it goes back to my mold making days. If you machine 90 degrees to the direction you would polish or sand the surface, you will smooth the cusps easier.

@@cadcamstuff - My thinking is making the horizontal passes requires many fewer changes in direction (which usually aren't actually at the programmed feed rate because of machine limitations ) and would probably save enough time the finish pass could have more step overs for a finer finish. My hunch is that depending on the programmed feed rate versus the actual machine it would vary some. Without running some real life tests I I'm not 100% positive.
