This video shows how I built a wooden wall sign and includes a step-by-step tutorial on how I use fusion 360 CAM software to cut out 2D shapes with my homemade CNC.

This is 100% what I was looking for. You have made something that I thought was going to be quite daunting into a breeze.

Thanks for your videos. I just made my own CNC machine and in my first trials the bit cut through my (scrap) wood on its way to the engraving. Your tip to add the G0 Z1 line is invaluable.

Awesome video, I've been wanting to learn the fusion cam process so I can export stuff to my xcarve and this is perfect. Now I just wish My xcarve could run on mach3.

Hi I just ame across your videos and think they are great. As a suggestion you could take it to the next step and inlay the hardwood pieces into the pine base.

This was perfect. I love the gcode edit. Is there an edit to the end of the series to lift the bit back up to z1 when it's finished and homing?

Since it's been a few years, you likely know this already, but you can modify the post generation to include that command you've been manually adding. Thanks for the video!

Great video. Spent most of the video mumbling out loud.”Oh,I see!” Better explanation than an instructor gave.

Love the video! As others have mentioned, this is exactly what I was looking for. I am working with a very robust and heavy duty, albeit very old, CNC mill. The limitation that I find myself dealing with is the maximum memory size of 1.44MB (basically whatever will fit on a good old floppy drive). I am curiose, for a program roughly the size and complexity of what you have created here, what is the gcode file size? I realize I can drip feed into the machine (luckily I got all of the machine and controller documentation when I bought this old thing), but for learning and writing simple programs, I am going to be limited to whatever I can fit onto a 1.44MB floppy disk. Fingers crossed that something of this complexity wont be exceedingly large. Also, if the board you were cutting in this case were thicker and you had to make multiple passes to complete each 2D profile, would Fusion360 generate that gcode in a loop with each interation of the loop being a different z height? If I were writing a program manually, I would certainly do this to avoid rewriting all of the movements a second time, but I could see the Fusion360 gcode generator doing it either way. This may be me just getting lost in the weeds, but the memory capacity limitation has me a bit freaked out on mildly complicated 2D tool paths 😛. In any event, you nailed the intent of your video. You conveyed the process of creating a tool path and then how to export that tool path through a post processor and load it into the CNC controller. I especially appreciate the quick sanity check of the code for the tool starting Z hight 👌. Well done!

(I skipped ahead to Fusion 360 part so I didn't watch the beginning) Is the .125" stock box thickness an arbitrary number you picked out of nowhere or does that number have some relevance to the piece at work?

Thanks for this! I am working on a slightly smaller version of your CNC and this really helps. Have you thought of an enclosure for dust reduction and noise reduction. I am thinking I may want to incorporate that for mine, and would appreciate your thoughts on this.

I was confused about Fusion 360 for I am using since the VECTRIC ASPIRE and VCARVE pro, to where everything was simplified from the creating of design until the processing of the toolpath. Fusion 360 is a way to go on milling an ALUMINUM due to the adaptive clearing technique to which the latter does not have any. Just my thought!

Very well explained and very nice finished product. I do have a question, the system cut things out in a different order than you showed they would be, is that just because you went back and redid things just for filming?

Really really really really really really great video. clear concise and smart. fusion has so many options its so easy to get bogged down by the nuances and make dumb mistakes...thanks for helping me paddle through the crap. :) you saved a lot of my tools from being thrown. give my channel a peak when you get a chance..im going to have a ton of cnc content..both plasma and traditional wood

Hey there, I wanted to ask you at 15:00, So what I understand that the cut should have begun from the top That is after g54. later during the video, it milled it backwards, i.e it cut the small triangle first and then the "B". Also, Is there any other software like Mach that has a much easier UI. I am good with tools just that my strong suit is not Working with software. Thanks. Love your content

Hey man, I'm really enjoying watching your videos. I appreciate your easy to follow commentary. I have a small issue that I can't get past. When I get my DWG file uploaded into fusion - it drops it onto left pane like in your video, but when I double click it to get it over to my workspace - it opens a new browser window and basically shows me a "viewer" version of the art. unsure where to go from there as there seems to be no way to get it back to my workspace. No amount of buttons/menu options I can find will open it up on my workspace area. Thoughts? Note: I'm using free/home version of 360

Thanks for the help with this video. The problem I'm having is that the center of the router bit is following the edge of the piece to cut out and so the final product is not as big as it should be. How would one get the edge of the cut of the bit to follow the design? Thanks
