!!Important!! If you really want to 3D print this, combine all the bodies using boolean into one before exporting, otherwise your slicer might have problems with the intersecting shells

Thanks Hans. I've always noticed that cura has a hard time making a multibody piece look seemless once it's printed. It's probably because I never heard about what you just explained, thank you.

these are my favorite type of tutorials Taylor! Please make more, this is the best way to learn just basically watching a skilled user do his thing. Very concise, very clean and not too fast not too slow, perfect. Would have been cool to see the lamp finished though...

I enjoyed that video thanks. I did try this and I was able to save a step. When I rotated the bodies I chose both of the artifacts that were generated by the extrude. I just needed one rotation rather than two.

This is one of the best explained Fusion video projects I've seen to date. So clear, no steps missed or assumed, making it so easy to follow. And here we are in 2022 and this is still the best. Thanks for that. As I watched the video, I saw something that gave me an idea. That is, when the shade is first rounded, without the diamond cuts, it looked like a flower pot. So one could make a matching flower pot and lamp shade that would be very cool. And the flower pot COULD have a few styles. Solid Diamond cuts other cuts but all retaining the main form. Very cool!

I went back to the step to creating the circular patterns. Before doing that, I added a 0.75mm filet to the "straps". After doing the patterns, there are no more sharp edges. Looks nice.

But as a newbie your mouse moves a bit too quick for me to see what you have chosen from the various menus. But the more I watch the more I learn. This program is mind-blowing! Years ago I tried to teach myself patch modelling in both 3dsmax and Maya - whilst I made some progress I eventually gave up because of all the clumsy and complex operations you had to perform attaching, detaching and stitching surfaces together. I therefore chose to develop my high poly modelling skills and left behind NURBs as an interesting concept but impractical method for creating complex models that would be used for animation or game assets. I've always been aware of programs like AutoCAD, SolidWorks and even Sketchup as good solutions to producing complex accurate surface geometry - however, I never viewed them as creative as your ability to radically alter or kit bash a model together with purpose was limited. This program is nothing short of a revolution in its approach to surface modelling - all of the complex operations are gone and you are free to manipulate your creation with precise control. I'm sure a lot of other poly modellers must be looking at this program and seeing the possibilities... I've already experimented creating shapes that I've exported out as meshes to Zbrush and the results incredible. The meshes will eventually require retopology in the final stages for the kind of work I do - but this isn't too difficult. If Autodesk could also develop a way to export these models out with good quad topology then this program would be perfect!
