in wood working it's known as a "KEYHOLE" slotting bit. Not sure in metal it would work without first slotting the initial width of the shank of the bit with an endmill so chips and coolant can do their thing.

Thank you for this one, and all the videos, honestly. hadnt used slicer or the tracing option...so im excited to try both

Thanks for the video however using the contour tool path seemed to be a workaround. I figure out you can use the trace tool path. Under the passes tab, select Repeat Passes and select Both ways. You can reverse the entry point by clicking on the red arrow on the select trace line.

This can be done in steel too, if You first plunge cut a larger slot than the stem size of the T-slot cutter. That way, the chips would have an exit from the inside cut. But it would be necessary to have a special chip breaker that directs the chips into the correct direction.

Seems to me like it would be better to first cut the hole for the t-slot cutter and slot for the cutter shank to full depth with a standard flat end mill than go in with the t-slot cutter. Most t-slot cutters I've seen cant plunge cut into the material. (BTW I'm only a Hobby Machinist so I don't really know the proper way this would be accomplished)

That is how you cut them with a hand held router. I would agree use the same process with the CNC.

This vid is worth it's weight in gold! Totally missed that slice option in the sketch panel! Much easier than orbiting around to select various things to protect and then trying to get back to viewing my sketch plan from top down. Especially when sketching on obscure planes.

Hi Lars couldn't you use the trace command in a kind of loop modus by drawing the traceline and give it at the end a tiny half circle and then backup to the beginning point it would make the slot a tiny bit wider but that can be accounted for And the simulation would work I presume kind regards

Just need to get the same effect in the narrow slot processing module-processing path-repeated precision processing path and check, you can get the same effect.

Hi Lars, Here are some photos with descriptions that show how I made key hole slots with a key seat tool. imgur.com/a/r8RN0Dd I made some keyhole slots in wood for chair arms used in stadium seating on another CAC/CAM Program. I machined the large diameter circle and the slot to bottom depth using a pocket toolpath.. Then I made a U shaped toolpath starting at the center of the large circle with an offset of .001 going down to the far end of the slot and returning back to the center of the large circle for a total width of .002. This toolpath allowed the keyway cutter to go to the designated depth and travel the designated U shaped toolpath and return to the original position and retract back out of the original plunged position. The keyway cutter I used was .125 thick and I needed to make 2 passes to get the desired height of the internal slot. Worked like a charm. Hope this helps. I commented the same on your post yesterday. John

this is how you have to do it, right? there aren't any flutes on the shaft of the key cutter, are there?

@@hemligagosta6554 You are correct. There are no flutes on the shaft of the key cutter. John

Lars - did you notice in a recent update with F360 that there is an issue with a 0 RPM Trace toolpath with a tool like a Diamond Drag Engraving Tip? It is throwing an error now saying that the cutting feedrate needs to match the number of flutes multiplied by...This is what it says: --------------------------- Invalid Value --------------------------- Cutting Feedrate must be equal to the product of the number of flutes (=2), the feedrate per tooth (=0 in) and the spindle speed (=0 rpm) --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
