Even though these tutorials are somewhat dated, they're the #1 source that I go to, when I want to learn something fundamentally important about F360. It blows my mind when people just decide to sit down and teach, for the main purpose of educating people. Hat off to Lars.

Hi Lars, I'm new to F360 (and computer-based CAD). I just wanted to say that this has cleared up so many issues that I had come across in the past couple of months. I had found the general tutorials I had seen so far assumed that you knew the basics of F360, then sped off into the distance leaving me stranded... You've cleared up the constraints problems I was having, model importing, and versioning, all in one video. Thank you! (I realised that the versions were buried somewhere, but had to produce stuff at work, then learn how to draw properly in my own time) Susi xx

Lars this video is vital for newbs like myself. This video explains the general philosophy without getting stuck on tangents which newbs don't care about. I watched this many times over, taking notes in a bulleted list. I'll share that list with you when it's a bit more polished up. So you can see what's in my minds eye, as a newb who wants to take articulate notes for other newbs.

Wow Lars!! I unsuccessfully tried to learn Fusion 360 quite some time ago and I'm going to give it another shot. For the past year or so I've been using and trialing some different CAD software both direct and parametric modeling and now that I'm returning back to the fold Fusion 360 does not seem so intimidating. From a hobbyist and CAD amateur this is really a great product. My bad for throwing in the towel. If I hadn't who knows where I would have been today. Thank you for these wondering videos Lars which are a tremendous help and I hope to never abandon the fold again!! Peter

Great lessons Lars, I started out by watching how other people draw in Fusion 360 and start modeling a few complicated boxes. Feel Autodesk Fusion 360 is a very powerful program and easy to use. I'm now investing more time to learn all the basic things you're talking about in your video clips. With the experiences from modeling on my own, it is much easier to understand each important point mentioned in your video. A lot learned, thank you.

Looking forward to watching your tutorials. I started with AutoCad 1.4 in the 80s and grew with it into the 90s. I can't count the number of times I've wished I had it on my computer. I can finally afford an Autodesk product since they made Fusion free... Lol But, when I got it of it, 3d modelling was only on SparcStations and not on PC's. So, this is still very new to me.

+Lars - Also wanted to add a big thumbs up for this video. I'm still rather newly on my 3D printing adventure, and of course, got thrown into CAD. (Screaming & kicking, I might add ...) Last time I dabbled in CAD was 1996 or so ... it's changed a bit ... (!!!) This tutorial is excellent, you have a new subscriber. I also want to point out that you're a natural teacher. Some people have the gene for explaining complex things in simple language. Sadly, most engineer types don't, which doesn't stop them from producing videos, LOL! AutoDesk's "Intro" video to Fusion is an example. The instructor uses a technical term 30 seconds into the very 1st introduction to CAD that took me almost an HOUR of research to understand. Not a great start for a n00b! I showed it to my Wife, and she was like "WHAAAT??!? Is he MAD using a term like that 30 seconds in"?? Too funny (but not at the time). As part of my job (Computer Consultant) I have to train people on computers, and I see you know the rule "repeat the basic point at least three times to ensure they get it"! Well done, and thanks again!

Lars! What do you call it, when you model an object and then save it as something separate that you can then use and re-use to model additional parts? So if I want to make accessories for something, I want to draw that main object once, and then pull it in as something like "construction lines"....Thanks!

I used to use a different CAD program just for fun. My family bought me a 3d printer to goof around with and after a while found Fusion 360 because the old CAD program was umm.. well it was fun but it sucked. I have spent 3 weeks, every night after work until my eyes close watching tutorials, doing drawings, and printing plastic parts just for fun. Fusion 360 is crazy cool, and SO easy to learn. One thing that worries me is the trial version. I only have a year to play with it before paying mega bucks just for fun. Is there a none-cripple-ware version for an old bag who just loves CAD yet has no intention of ever profiting from using it? It is just fun for me and even with the trial version I feel guilty for not paying something for using it, but can not afford the full price that industrial users would pay. Thanks, Dana

Hi Lars, I'm finding your tutorial videos very useful. I'm experienced with SolidWorks myself but it's quite straight forward to transfer those skills. 360 seems to have a lot of functions that are easier to use than the SolidWorks equivalent, I may fully switch over.
@cadcamstuff7 жыл бұрын

I'm finding that I am having more fun using fusion than SolidWorks. I have noticed that when you save a fusion 360 part to STEP and open in SolidWorks, there are a lot of geometry errors. This is the only thing that worries me about entirely switching to Fusion 360. I may have future clients that require a fully editable model on SolidWorks, and if my fusion 360 model can't be accurately translated over, then it could become a problem. Do you have any advice or experience that you could share in this area? Many thanks,

Lars... Thanks! Would you be willing to do a video on the best practice for placing screws in a line of holes? I'm confused as to what the best practice is for importing in screws from McMaster Carr one at a time or copy and pasting. Then should they all be in one folder or separate on the file structure list? I don't want the screws to move all at once when I move one. Lastly, say I'm holding a plate down to a body. The plate has a row of screw holes. What is the best practice to keep the plate from moving when it is screwed down? Do I make the screws a rigid joint to the base alone? If I do, the plate still moves. I guess I don't get how to make parts function they way they would if they were really screwed down. Thanks ahead of time if you decide to do this.

first of all awesome work and thanks. question I'm brand new to CAD but looking to getting a scanner that I can use to upload file to fusion 360 and change as I wish. looking to doing some car parts. your thoughts on which scanner to buy for ease or compatibility with fusion360. which format is preferred or easiest to work with etc.. again Thank you
@cadcamstuff7 жыл бұрын
You know, scanners are really cool...There is just one problem, they are normally not very accurate unless you spend a lot of money. If I was in your shoes I would try to get some of your parts scanned as a test before purchase. I would go to a couple of different companies and say "I need you to scan one of my parts so I can evaluate the scan data before I buy." I have seen many cases where the scan data is full of holes and missing geometry that you end up spending hours in you CAD software stitching things together. Fusion 360 imports STL files and OBJ file types and there is a Mesh workspace in the Preview section. You should be successful if you can get good scan data :-) Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for these great videos!!! I sit watching them with my mouth wide open in amazement. I have a couple of questions 1: What is your recommended order to watch your videos in if I am a complete beginner (software engineer by trade), 2: I'm working on a project and I'll need to connect several pieces of square metal "tubing" together in a way that they are easily assembled/dissembled. One idea is to use a spring plunger where the inner tube would have the spring & ball and the outer tube a hole where the ball locks into. I assume your hardware provider would have one that could be screwed into the inner tube. Are there other preferred ways to connect parts together that that they are easily assembled/dissembled? A driver bit set is another option where the driver head has a groove which locks into a circular spring clip. 3: I'd like a snug fit between the various parts so what should be the difference in the outer measurement of the inner tube and the inner dimension of the outer tube? thanks again

Hi Lars, how can I rotate an object and sketch altogether in one command? I 'm doing the move/translate command with rotation option but there is no multi selection for sketch and bodies selection like all entities? I can do it but has to do another command. Why there is no option for selectable entities to rotate which also good if you have a lot of additional entities.

Hi Lars, love your tutorials and subscribed. I am not sure if you are still checking the comments after almost two years. :) Only one thing is the resolution for the video is quite low on full screen. I do not if that's only me or anyone else has the same experience.

Hi Diane Chen Thank you for watching! Yes, totally my mistake. I had the wrong resolution when I processed the video. Best, Lars

Lars what's your opinion on computer/OS for running Fusion360 the best? Is there any difference between Mac and Windows for functionality or performance?
@cadcamstuff8 жыл бұрын
Hi John. I run Fusion on a Windows machine. I know most of the Fusion guys at Autodesk are running Mac's. There was a rumor at one point that Fusion ran a little smoother on Windows, but I could not tell you if that is still the case. I don't think running Fusion would be my deciding factor on which machine I would choose. Always exciting when looking for new hardware :-) Good luck!

Do you know how to CNC a topographic map so that only certain roads are cut into the model? I asking you because when I look up CNC topographic maps A LOT of people use Fusion 360 to prep the stl file.

Lars, fantastic videos, my question is if you import a model from someone else does the history also come with it? How about a model from a different system like sw?

Great video; I wish more people tried to explain programs in a big picture mode. However, I wish you would have explained what the differences are between Fusion 360 and normal Autocad. Thanks So Much Lars

great tutorials...keep them coming.. I am coming from SW and the challenge is not easy.. but easier thanks to you. I find move and copy in F360 to be the most difficult for a beginner. Can you do a beginner tutorial on this topic..please.

If Lars ever snapped and became a kidnapper, he wouldn't do anything terrible. He would just tie someone to a chair, turn on some music, and talk about fusion 360 for days. Love the videos man!

Hi Lars. I am learning Fusion 360 mostly for 3D Printing applications and since the z axis is 'up' in the 3D printing world, how important is it that Fusion is set the same under 'preferences' (i.e. the 'default modelling orientation' setting)?
@cadcamstuff7 жыл бұрын
Not really important. Most print utilities, like meshmixer, will let you orient the model at the end so you can place it the right way on the printer. Best, Lars

Very well done video Lars! I like the way you explaining things...simply, calm and always to the point. I have one question here, because I also want to know something about Fusion 360 :-) I used to work with Sketchup. There in the end of your modeling you can smooth the model. Then you don't have the lines and planes that you don't want to see anymore, just nice looking thing. Can I do something like that in Fusion 360 as well? Greetings
@cadcamstuff7 жыл бұрын
Hi Rafal, Thank you for taking the time to watch the videos. Yes, You can change the display setting at the bottom of the screen to show just as shaded. That should do the trick :-) Have an awesome day!

Hi Lars, Thanks1 Everything is working perfect! But probably in the future I'm going to have more questions. I just like to earn new things :-) Have nice day...with a little less snow! Greetings from sunny Netherlands.

When I pick a sketch plane for the first extrusion, I am always thinking what will be the top, front, or side of my part and pick one of the three planes that makes the most sense. When a plane is picked in the video, how do you know which one of the three you are hovering over?
@MrPTrog8 жыл бұрын
I have the same problem. Easy to do in inventor as they are named. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I don't know what it is.
@IndependantMind1688 жыл бұрын
Look at the view cube in the top right. Does this help or am I missing the question?
@IndependantMind1688 жыл бұрын
Also, when selecting the plan you have to think of the three selections as the inside of a box. So at 12:15 you're looking at the inside of a box from an angle. The bottom selection is the top plane, the left selection facing your right shoulder is the side, and the right selection facing your left shoulder is the front.
