Thank you for this short and to the point beginner example video! In 5 minutes you actually teach how to use the software to make a basic part. Most other videos easily take 15-30min to jibber jabber through the process.

A quick tip to anybody reading- if the object comes in the way of selecting the plane for drawing, one may hide the body in the objects panel, thus eliminating the need to zoom out and being forced to be extra precise about all of it. Great video Mr. Păduraru, really helps one get going as a beginner :D

I just joined. I want to learn Fusion 360 mainly for designing scale items for my model railroad to be 3D printed. I have a Ender 3 Pro but don't know where to start. I have several texts on the subject and 40 years using 2D cad, Visual Cadd. Most of my projects would be less the 220mm x 220mm as that is the plate size on my printer. I tried FreeCAD but it was difficult to learn because of so many ways of creating a part. In 2D CAD i draw a line to whatever length by watching how long it is. In FreeCAD they determine length using constrictions added after drawing. And very little use of pre-made objects that you then modify.

Marius, big thanks for the tutorial. I just bought my 3d printer and was playing with ThinkerCad, but found it not very friendly for someone who wants to pretend to be a real engineer ;) I tried Fusion 360 and it was frustrating until I found this tutorial. You explained how to draw not so simple part within 5 minutes and, what is more important, in a very, very understandable manner. Thank you!

After we extrude the hole and are trying to create the triangle, which plane are you selecting?? I’m trying to draw it but whichever plan you zoom out and select doesn’t match when I click the plane you select…

Hello! Maybe you start your drawing from another point and this is why the point 0,0 is not in the center of gravity of the object.

Hi . Great video and was following until I got to 3.40 creating the triangle . Could not get the lines to centre and when I Extrude it is separate from drawing , any help please ?.

Sure, go on! But try to pay more attention to points and symmetricity because in other drawings when you use commands such as mirror, pattern, the drawings will be badly affected, so take it simple in the beginning.

What measurement units are you using?

Hello! I can use any measurement I want, but particularly for this drawing, I used millimetres. It was more important the way of drawing instead of type of units.

I can't for the life of me figure out the triangle step on macOS. I've tried using the "3D Sketch" option as others have suggested and that does allow me to select the center point of the edges when creating the triangle but after completing the triangle shape I'm left with black lines that I can't extrude. Any tips? Thanks!

Okay, so I figured out how to do this without using the "3D Sketch" option. Create a new sketch, select the plane as in the video, hit the "p" key on your keyboard, select the vertical face, select okay from the option modal, and do the same thing again with the horizontal plane. This should leave you with points to select. Now, use the line tool and click on the points from the previous step. This should leave you with a blue triangle which you can then extrude.

Hello! I selected just the middle plan because the drawing is made around the 0.0 coordinate point, so I chose the plan from 3:37.

@@MariusCAD wow, I don't know what I'm doing incorrectly, I'm doing EXACTLY what you're doing, I cannot place the triangle in the middle...it doesn't snap to the center...when I create sketch, it seems I can only select TOP, FRONT, or RIGHT plane...I don't know why

As a beginner, I found this too fast. It's a good project, but I'm constantly pausing the video. Also, at 3:50, I don't understand how the mid points are visible. I tried several times and had to stop there.

In the sketch palette, check "3D Sketch" before you start drawing the line. If you check it with the line tool activated, you have to cancel the line and re-check the box.

Why not just skctch the top view and extrude??? 90% of the extruding would be extremely simple.

Go slower
