This is amazingly helpful, but any advice on how to port this into fusion 17?

Go to the fusion page and you can then access the fusion preferences in the top menu. At that point just follow the video.

this is brilliant, thanks! good to see the Keymix in the tools, but i was really hoping the Sampler would be in there. do you have one or do you know of one (that works!) for Fusion?

Thanks! The Sampler can be replicated with the Probe modifier, its much much more powerful and lets you sample dynamically.

that sounds great! i have looked up Probe in the Tool reference manual (not hugely helpful for a beginner) and looked at Vito La Manna's quick lesson on the Probe modifier, but i am afraid i am a long way from understanding how to make a Sampler. can you point me to a more in-depth tutorial on the Probe and/or something that might help me get closer to producing, what for me (and for Steve Wright!) is a a vital tool. thx.

that sounds great! i have looked at the Probe modifier in the Tool Ref manual and at Vito La Manna's intro to it, but unfortunately i am still a long way from understanding how to make a sample or slice tool with it. if you could point me to a tutorial that might help me create such a tool, i would be most grateful.

Oh, if you want to do something like a slice tool take a look at the CustomTool, its very similar to Nuke's Expression node. I've done slice tools with them. You can sample areas and do a lot of stuff with them. Check the docs for the syntax.

Thx. I have already started investigating the Custom Tool and i will look at the docs. I am actually starting out in both Fusion and Nuke - doing the latter in parallel, because so much teaching material aimed at feature film greenscreen keying is very Nuke-centric (eg Steve Wright, Josh Parks).

Thanks! Im running Ubuntu with i3-gaps as my window manager. Very speedy and fast workflows with just hotkeys.
