I love this technique. I've spent hours installing fiberglass. Hated it. Tedious and itchy while I have my misgivings about how well it performs. This stuff sticks tight and is firm. Even rats would have a hard go of it. Fiberglass is a perfect home for rats and mice. Especially under a trailer home.

Nice neat job by the technician.... Plus he is laying thin layers at a time.... That way you will be assured there will be no uncured foam that remains in liquid state., which could off gas forever.. Seems the liquid chemicals used to make the foam are relatively unsafe to breathe in liquid form.... But become harmless after the chemical reaction has taken place and turned the liquid into a solid foam core... As in a Styrofoam cup we drink coffee out of.... But what do I know anyway? I slept at a Holiday Inn last night.

@fusioninsulation
@fusioninsulation 8 жыл бұрын
Davian - the black paper system is a spacer card that we have to fit in Irish roofs under local regulations - It's a bit of an anomaly in terms of regulation as for example if you fit Icynene foam in Ireland you don't have to fit it but if you spray all the other certified foams you do (even though they are all pretty much identical open cell foams ) - go figure

Why would you ever leave an air space behind the foam? According to everything I have read and studied this will only create problems. The air space is to allow moisture to dry and have a place to go. With foam against the plywood there will be no moisture to vent. What is the logic or thought here? I am interested to hear why.

Sheet insulation is okay I guess . You have to allow for 5-7% wastage , cut each sheet individually and then they are not airtight so you have to buy dozens and dozens (I've seen hundreds of cans used on big jobs) of DIY foam cans to caulk the sheets to make them airtight ....and you have to project manage and QC all that . Getting us in takes just 1 phone call and we clean up after us .

That looks like a p2 gun to me. Not a fusion. Your spray technic is a good way to make bad foam in a hurry. 1 inch minimum lifts at a time. Its a chemical reaction which requires the heat of the foam to react properly

unbelieveable how many people think the right thing to do is gob a ton on at one time, heat is the enemy here, all it takes is one mistake to end up with a runaway endothermic reaction that will ruin a house
@christophergruenwald5054
@christophergruenwald5054 8 жыл бұрын
+consaka1 you also need enough heat for a proper chemical reaction. Less than an inch does not produce enough exothermic heat to make good plastic. Some foams you can't spray more than 2 inch lift without problems, but you still need more than 1. Some newer good foams will do 3 inches plus without issues. All still require a minimum thickness to get a proper exothermic reaction. Really small lifts also give you shitty yields, to top it.
@consaka1
@consaka1 8 жыл бұрын

timber will rot if not breathing and obviously this is airtight... also if this is open cell it will suck up all the moisture and make things even worse over time. Timber has much higher U-value than the sprayable foam therefore the exposed timber on both sides of the roof will act as a thermal bridge causing local heat loss and generate condensation- great! more moisture to be absorbed by your foam... As far as I know any structural surveyor will fail the foam 'as presented' and you will have to drop the price when selling your house or you will have to pay to remove all this 'masterpiece' before sale.
