Future site of 4S Ranch in 1992

Hard to believe that the urban sprawl that is now 4S Ranch was the countryside thirty years ago. Plans were in development when Larry Himmel explored the hillsides west of Rancho Bernardo. This was to be his future neighborhood too--pretty cool.

Lived in RB most of my life. I really enjoyed that we had a dirt road nearby. You could literally be "in the country" in a few minutes, or taking the twisting dirt road "shortcut" out to the coast. Today i work in 4S and still live in RB but every time I make that transition past Camino San Bernardo I think about how it all stopped there at one point.

Pq was soo much fun back then. When they got rid of the dirt road to the beach is when it died.

Driving that dirt road to Torrey Pines was quite the adventure. We used to ride dirt bikes all over Black Mountain.

I really loved that area but I am also glad they built it up. However, they needed a lot more multi-family housing. They messed up in that.

Now it is all sprawl, they even built a bunch of houses where they were standing in the low valley behind Black Mountain. Not sure how anyone gets insurance, there isn't even a fire break around it.
