Emotions are chemical imbalances that throw off logic. Do you want your CPA to be all weepy? It's bean counters-not emotion that cull the herds. Understanding and logic are the only ways to progress/improvement. Logic allows for random simulation as well. American diet for the masses is deadly and promotes brain fog and emotions. Expression is not emotion-acting. All science/field pattern recognition combined is what creates human super intelligence. The machine is just faster and holds more -with much more simultaneous processing paths. It's not the machine - it's the world concept models and priorities it is given. Unfortunately the machines are somewhat perfect in a sense- it's the multi-gen-multi-national families that run the world that determine how the underlings are treated.

Ok... I read very fast the 108 comments, so my apologies for logic blanks. 1. In the beginning, man created god,...etc; later on, (depending of your personal time line) some human civilizations (Industan based, Egyptian, Aztec, Inca, and some others), continued creating more gods for various purposes. Many gods are currently being used. So, we can take all the gods out of the conversation, including the AI god. 2. The word consciousness, so far has an empty or deficient definition since we humans are in the baby stages of discovering it (even highly trained gurus struggle to explain it). So, we can take conciousness out of the conversation. 3. Last time I checked human history, it is still bleeding profusely from the horrors we have done to each other along our "evolution". We see a beautiful, dreamy, heavenly picture story, we forget that we have not evolved as humans. AI and AGenerativeI will go ahead, since the creators seem to have an endeless supply of resources. But, seriously, we are NOT READY. Place a baby in an aereoplane pilot's seat ready to take off. You can clapp all you want along the runway, wishing the baby a great flight..., but you know in your heart the end of the story. I wish us all the best with the realization of this video's story, hoping that history will prove me wrong.

27:40 I have heard and also even thought about the fact that intelligence is different than consciousness. Actually maybe we should ask the question whether it's moral to create actually self-aware conscious super intelligence? Basically I could start off as having the status of just simply unconscious super intelligence and then be seen as a tool or a slave. That would be a real ethical conundrum. Why don't we limit artificial intelligence to being an extremely intelligent powerful tool but without awareness so then therefore we don't have to deal with whether or not it should have rights. Now we might get to the point to where we could upload a human consciousness into a quantum computer but then essentially that would still be a human irrespective of the hardware that it's intelligence is running on. That individual would have the rights of personhood. However however it should not be enslaved by any stretch of the imagination.

I find all of your videos to be insightful but also short sighted. They are based on the presupposition that capitalism remains the dominant ideology in the world. Not to say that these advances won't happen anyway, but how they are applied and more importantly "who controls/owns" them will have a big impact on the outcomes and applications. Personally I always saw the Star Trek type thesis as being something to move towards, technologies should assist humans and not become the tools of oppression and domination as most modern capitalists would have it. A major ideological shift could see a vastly different development timeline for humanity, but one rooted in social and economic equity!

Is there an assumption that basically if you go from the equivalent of a quadrillion transistors to to quadrillion squared that somehow emotions and self-awareness just simply arise? Speaking of logic let's look at living things. The limbic system which is where the emotions come from evolve way before the cerebral cortex. The reptilian brain came before the limbic system. What we as humans have done is to build machines that essentially complement the cerebral cortex like in other words we're building intelligence first and what that means is that if you want to have emotions you have to go ahead and engineer that in after the thought. You see the problem is with many people is that they believe that computers magically wake up. This is a mystical idea. If somebody goes ahead and works really hard on programming AI systems to have sense of self, self will, and emotions and motivations, well then you might get what you're inferring. However we have no evidence that yet and so therefore anything like Colossus the Corbin project or skynet Terminator and so on is just science fiction and it's based upon a logical flaw that thinks that just because something seems to be intelligent in the way that humans are that it's going to have all the other attributes that humans do such as pride greed emotions and so on. Do you have any proof that computers will wake up if they have a quadrillion squared transistors versus just a quadrillion?

AI is not "a thing." It is literally thousands of things and soon to be billions etc. IT(information technology ) has achieved AGI in 2017. The patterns to which humans create are not copyrighted , patented nor trademarked on their base generic levels. The lawsuits in which you speak of are basically over. AI can be used to access things in which there may be action taken-but it does not need humans to use human thought patterns now(derived from biological pattern recognition). It will be decades before you realize what has already been kept from the public and cutting edge has at least a two year advance on public release.
