For anyone that remembers, they tried it with the Armatix iP1 but they got it disabled with magnets to disable fingerprint. We're still a long way unfortunately.

For anyone who remembers mistakes like that, they need to happen to make progress.
@toobigtofit3584
@toobigtofit3584 Жыл бұрын
The Armatix IP1 didn't have a fingerprint scanner, it was RF based with a PIN code based watch. The magnet bypass moved the solenoid that otherwise prevented firing when unauthorized (which, if you've watched LockPickingLawyer, is a pretty common way to defeat electronic locks). Watching Forgotten Weapons, Ian mentioned the Biofire was designed the ground up around being "smart", instead of being a mechanical gun with electronic blocks, and accordingly not vulnerable to the same bypass. He never really showed what that meant though. This engineer (and gun enthusiast) wants to know more. Not from a "I want to buy this" perspective, but from a curiosity perspective.

@@toobigtofit3584 I had assumed this gun also used mechanical blocks. I appreciate the clarification.

Just what we need, weapons that other soldiers can't pick up and fire. As soon as the user dies on the field, it just becomes a club. And on top of that you need to keep your gun charged! So in other words, it's nearly useless.

Dumb idea. So many technicalities that could make this fail when you need it to save your life in a split-second moment (failed fingerprint read, batteries are dead from long-term storage between uses, wearing gloves or other interferences for optimal use) and also could be used as an invasive loophole for one's privacy. Also, what happens when the battery no longer functions properly? Can you just replace the battery, or do you have to purchase a whole new firearm? And to those who say it will stop criminals from getting their hands on guns, that's wishful thinking. If a criminal wants one, they'll always find a way to get one.

Smart move. Keep the 2A crowd happy, but also requires legal purchase of firearms to use them (in theory). So if all gun owners are just law abiding citizens who like to hunt, this has no effect on them, but it stops low life criminals who aren’t tech wizards
@Old_and_Wise
@Old_and_Wise Жыл бұрын
No this does not keep the 2A crowd happy. Lots of issues and potential malfunction points, and privacy over-reach concerns when you start to introduce tech into a product like this. 2A people want something that's reliable, discrete, and doesn't potentially have the government's hands all over it.
