I still remember this great song from the Late Spring/Summer of 1968 when I was 12. What set it apart was the guitar and the repetition of the words ‘I Love You’. Listening to this now I feel like I’m back in that time with all its memories both good and bad…

The definitive version of this song. Eclipses all others with one of the most urgent guitar hooks ever. The vocals have a presence and clarity of the highest magnitude. Listen to great music all day. The guitar riff from this one will be the last song wafting through your brain at the end of the day. That crazy Hammond organ solo adds the energy of a hungry tiger to the mix. I used to live across the street from these guys when i was in junior high school in San Jose. Used to watch them practice in the garage. They were our neighborhood rock stars. It was a huge deal when they got a recording contract and played this song on KLIV. It was a huge hit locally and i believe it got some nationwide exposure as well. woodcutterdude Yeah, we're getting old man. I was 16 when this came out and I hadn't heard it in at least probably 20 years. I just heard it twice today on TV as the background music for a strange new 'Got Milk?' commercial and I had to find it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHXbgnZvjZd2gdE The milk ad music is the original recording played a little faster and chopped up. You can tell by the piano solo instead of the People's version with the organ. The song was originally written and recorded by The Zombies - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWfGYp6VZ5uHac0 but the People version is longer and the vocals are better. I found many versions of the song by both bands and I was surprised to find a concert video from about 5 years ago of The Zombies and they do the People's cover version of their song in concert!! I have the People album in my vinyl collection and I'm gonna have to dig this out now.

I remember this song so well. I was only 6 or 7 years old when it came out but my older brothers played this song and many other great hits from the 60s. This brings back so many memories of the summertime fun we had in the 60s and 70s.

I've been listening to the Zombie's version for years... never knew that it was actually made into a hit by People. I can see why the People version was a bigger success... the production is great on this. But what a shame that the Zombies couldn't get it to chart. Zombies was without a doubt the most underrated band of all time. Geniuses that were as good as the Beatles or the Beach Boys, but somehow didn't prove it to the masses until it was already too late.

to me Zombies beats Beatles, and beach boys...

Zombies were truly unique, but I wouldn't elevate them that highly.

I like both but think Zombie vocal is better. Think the Z version played most in CA , think they dod OK :>}

al hamble idk why they~ Zombies and The Hollies shared the same fate of being underrated forever. Both are right uo there with Beatles, Beach Boys and even more

I just found this song and i love it. here are the lyrics I love you, I love you, I love you Yes I do but the words won't come And I don't know what to say I should tell you I love you, I do The words should explain but the words won't come I shouldn't hide my love deep inside The words should explain but the words won't come I should tell you just how I feel and I keep try-y-y-in' But something holds me back when I try to tell you I love you, I love you, I love you Yes I do-o-o I love you, I love you, I love you Yes I do but the words won't come And I don't know what to say I shouldn't hide my love deep inside The words should explain but the words won't come If you could see what you mean to me The words should explain but the words won't come And oh, how hard I try to tell you I lo-o-ove you But something holds me back when I try to tell you I love you, I love you, I love you Yes I do-o-o I love you, I love you, I love you Yes I do but the words won't come And I don't know what to say, yeah! I should tell you I love you, I do The words should explain but the words won't come I shouldn't hide my love deep inside The words should explain but the words won't come And oh, how hard I try to tell you I lo-o-ove you But something holds me back when I try to tell you I love you, I love you, I love you Yes I do-o-o I love you, I love you, I love you Yes I do but the words won't come And I don't know what to say I love you

This one hit # 1 in Springfield, MA, and at first, a lot of people thought it was a new hit by the Zombies

That makes sense. Very Zombiesque. That electric organ bridge solo sure sounds like Rod Argent.
