It is in there, and honestly I think it's just for dramatic effect. The Japanese has a tendency to take and use ideas from religions when they create their anime, manga, and video games. Back then I don't think they realized how offensive it could potentially be to Muslims if they saw this particular scene.

In my opinion, no, stuff like this is not as common now. I believe the Japanese are far more sensitive to who is watching their content than when this anime was released in 1995. You may or may not know this but Nintendo actually has a strict no real life religion policy when it comes to their their games. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time actually had used the same chant, but Nintendo decided in their later remakes of the game to remove out it of their own choice. Edit: I just wanted to clarify that it's not common to use sensitive religious content anymore. The Japanese may still use religious references but they will be keeping the international audience in mind. I just realized your question could be taken in a couple ways and I wasn't sure if that was what you meant.

Actually, no matter how many times I rewatch it, I still can't fully hate Yui after all that's happened. Sure, she acted very selfish and wicked but it was all under Nakago's manipulation all along. He ignited her pain and jealousy to hate her best friend. She did let him though which is her fault. What I just don't like the most about her is that she trusted Nakago more than Miaka when she's talking about Miaka choosing Tamahome over her. In fact, Yui is the one who betrayed Miaka for letting herself believe Nakago easily. True enough, he was there when she needs him but Yui and Miaka had always been together since childhood. She said so herself that she knows Miaka better than anyone so she ought to know that Miaka can't do all the stuff she accused her of. Anyway, bottom line is, Nakago is the true villain. He is evil for not only taking advantage of Yui but others around him as well.

Even though I understand her anger over her traumatic (fake) gang rape experience, I still don't get it how could Yui act so fucking cruelly toward her long time best friend during still inside the Book and even after they get out of it. Even when Miaka already kept reminding her over Nakago's hidden agenda then Nakago throughly revealed it, she insisted on disbelieving Miaka's message. Even though she revealed she can't deny that she believes Miaka because she's known her since childhood, but why, why, whyyyyy she should confess now after seeing Miaka almost killed??
