@Camerameister The ASh-82 is 14-cylinder actually. It doesn't have a geared fan, but Flugwerk added a fan as part of the propeller assembly so it turns at prop speed and not geared at 3x prop speed as on the BMW. (Although a gear fan would maintain the proper positive air pressure for needed cooling in the cowling.) One FlugWerk flies with an R-2800 but it appears to not be using a fan at all. I thought the ASh-82 would sound like the BMW, but the BMW is actually much quieter after hearing it.

@pistonssssss Flugwerk chose the Chinese ASh-82 14-cyl radial because it is closest in size, dimensions, and power output as the original BMW. It is also in good supply, fitting into the Flugwerk business plan of an easy to own, easy to fix, and easy to insure warbird. The ASh-82 is derived from Wright Cyclone engines produced under license in Russia. Flugwerk buyers have to complete the airplanes after purchase and one owner has used an R-2800 instead, which should be interesting.

@pistonssssss No. It's replica aircraft with a substitute engine to replace the BMW since those engines are extremely rare. The original idea of the Flugwerk replica project was an affordable and reliable high-performance warbird. However, two WWII originals are under restoration with original BMWs.
