God bless Ian Wright for that. He summed up how i felt as a young teenage fan in the summer of 95 when we signed Bergkamp. By the opening day of the league my room was full of Bergkamp posters, some in Holland shirts, some in Inter and Ajax shirts and some taken from him in an Arsenal shirt in pre season which i would look at in wonder, almost in disbelief, imagining what this outrageous player would do for us. As the years went on he surpassed all of those things that the young version of me imagined. I still remember that summer with absolute awe. Thank you Dennis, you are forever my favourate player.

I was at West Ham vs Arsenal game, when ref sent Bergkamp off, I was sitting with mates (all West Ham supporters, I am Arsenal) they were booing ref, so I said but this helps your team? They replied "we came to watch the best players, and Bergkamp is the best". Even they thought ref was in the wrong - Steve Lomas had three kicks at Bergkamp, before he (Bergkamp) retaliated, which got him red card.

This man rightly deserves every single honour dorn on him. He was the most elegant and efficient player to have played in the Premier League. I have not seen another player like him in English football. He left an indelible mark in British football and is a true legend of the game. I became a fan of Arsenal FC because of Dennis Bergkamp. To me, the addition of Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, and the other French contingent were just icing on the cake for the club. Like Diego Maradona, he is an unforgettable iconic figure in football.

Wasn't Rioch. David Dein was the one who signed him
@jeffparker89132 күн бұрын
@JamesLenehan-e6z Arsenal got Rioch in because they wanted someone unimpeachable after the George Graham bung scandal. Word at the time had it that Rioch was none to pleased to be told he wouldn't have responsibility for transfers, that he would only be able to recommend players to the board so he got his own back by "recommending" what was basically a fantasy world 5-a-side team. He was as surprised as anyone when we signed Bergkamp and Platt.

As a Liverpool I just want to say that this guy is a footballing legend. As Ian Wright said, he could play in any era of the game and was as smooth as silk. The original number 10 if ever you wanted one. If he wasn't afraid of flying, goodness knows what they might have also achieved in Europe and possibly a few more titles.

My first memory of Dennis was bewilderment!....I couldn't understand why he didn't run about like an energetic Ian Wright. Dennis had a completely different way of playing from the frenetic English players. Like Glen Hoddle he had the capacity to control time because he had a delightful first touch!...He was the Conductor of an Orchestra; controlling the rhythm of play. He would momentarily pivot like a ballet dancer to extricate himself from a situation or deceive a committed tackle unlocking a stubborn defence to allow a team mate the opportunity to score! Put simply most footballers walk like ducks, play like ducks, and have the intelligence of ducks but Dennis Bergkamp was a Swan!!

Denis Bergkamp didn't change Arsenal's dna but he did change English footballs dna. Herbert Chapman changed Arsenal's dna turning us into winners in the 1930's. 127 goals in 1931, 118 in 1933 and 115 in 1935 three of our 5 title winners in 30's. Charlie George, Liam Brady, Tony Adams, Patrick Viera and Thierry Henry carried on the dna.
