My dad got me the Explorer for my 10th birthday, and over the years I've realized it has everything I need (and nothing I don't). I've bought 2-3 Explorer Plus' since then. It's a great tool!

Awesome collection..I’m sure you know this now, but the super tinker (all the tinkers) has the screw driver instead of the corkscrew, so that’s actually a Climber you have there. Thanks for the tour!

Great collection, I ended up giving all my Victorinox knives away to friends that didn’t have one. I decided to look in all my knives in a drawer and only found one, so I started bidding on some knives on eBay and buying knives on ETSY. I also ordered new scales to change out some of the 91 mm knives I have coming. So far I have received 3 and after washing them in hot soapy water and oiling them only one was sub par. I hope the other ones coming in are as good as the first two.

Hi man, nice collection and good video! I can't wait to see the Alox part! Some small comments: - The one you showed between the Bantam and the Tinker, the one without back tools is called Recruit, I believe you said Rally. - You mentioned that the Spartan and Tinker both come in 84 and 91 mm. Yes, but for the Tinker they are just called Tinker and Small Tinker, whereas the small version of the Spartan is called Tourist. Just in case someone looks for it. - The knife you called a Super Tinker is actually a Climber because it has a corkscrew, not a Phillips. - What you called a medium flathead on the Swiss Champ is a chisel. - The last knife is called Deluxe Tinker (same as the Super Tinker + pliers). I guess you actually know all of this, you just made some mistakes. I'm just being a smartass because it might help others. Keep it up man, and make that Alox collection video soon! ;)

The Swiss Army knife you are holding at 0:40 is a Victorinox Explorer. I have the same knife, with the same type of damage: main blade broken and was reground. I refurbished it, gave new plus scales.There is only one slight difference: the knife I have does not have a utility hook between corkscrew and awl. It took me a while to research this. Turns out this Explorer without the hook dates from a time before 1991. Still, your collection is quite impressive.

Wow! Puts my little collection of ten or a dozen SAKs in to perspective! My favourites are the Pioneer X and the climber. I have the Jetsetter on my key ring. Scissors are my most used tool, so a compact would be good. I’ve only done videos on the Pioneer and Climber so far. But I’ve done videos on a couple of dozen other slip joints.

I have a more varied collection and the last one you show is my favourite of all. Not sure what model it is but the current equivalent is the Deluxe Tinker, your's however has the plus scales to include the pen and pin. I fitted these to mine but also swapped the Phillips screwdriver (Phillips screws are never used in Europe) to a corkscrew taken from a cheap Waiter model. I then added the small screwdriver and pin. It's the perfect compromise of tools and size.

Hey on the Swiss Champ, you might want to give people a heads up to warn people... * DO NOT TRY TO USE THE MEDIUM DRIVER ON SCREWS * They might get hurt using a wood chisel incorrectly. He'll I've bled using it correctly on my Marlboro Swiss Army Knife. The biggest of the 5 models they made for Marlboro. **Skip the deets** owned all 5 styles originally but a particularly nasty and crooked landlord helped himself to most of my collectables and other belongings that I had locked away while I was at work. I still have this knife because it was always in my pocket. Anybody ever need a chisel and have it there on their knife before? I had to go out of my way to use mine. But I did use it often it for awhile. I'd sink it into thick bark on an evergreen and hang my backpack (lunchpail) and jacket on while working. I've had it for at least 25 years now. Thanks for the Swiss knife video. I'm subbing to your channel and will catch up when I can.

I am very interested to know how you feel the translucent scales hold up to carrying in terms of maintaining overall nice aesthetics/cosmetics vs. solid color cellidor (?). You have many, so you should be a good person to ask, I expect. This issue affects my next Victorinox purchase, BTW. THANKS.
@FWGlockGuy5 жыл бұрын
Well, obviously scratches are going to happen over time, but I think that the translucent scales hold up just as well as the cellidor scales. You would think that the translucent scales would get cloudy over time, loosing their luster, but I’ve got a number of them that have a few scratches and dings, but still look great. Plus, a few passes over a strop, and they shine back up pretty easily. I’ve replaced a few of my plain scales with the translucent scales, simply for the cool factor. Hope this helps
@frederickj.71365 жыл бұрын
@@FWGlockGuy Yes, that does help. As you more or less inferred, I had wondered both about the eventual appearance of cloudiness and about whether you could buff out the translucent material's surface in some simple, repeatable, and reliably non-destructive way. So, thanks for that! I may have to try the translucent green for something different in a complementary color, if available in my eventual choice(s) of Victorinox model. It looks great in your collection videos, especially. I like the idea of some minor customization, too, and so I also wonder if you were able to remove existing scales non-destructively with some consistency (so that cosmetically good ones could be reused elsewhere as required). I know that reuse is considered 'off-spec' by the manufacturer, and what I've seen in other KZbin videos dealing with this procedure presents a very mixed picture of success. The hot water soaking method, for example, seems especially dice-y and fraught with worrisome variables to me. Thanks!
