Love this! You’re right about the panning shots, the atmosphere, and yeah the spine part is sickening! More of these please!

Before I watch the movie and video, I just wanted to say... I'm Glad you got your video back up I admire your love for filmmaking and your video essays (Conan the Barbarian 82) are much better than those SJW hacks who make other video essays (cough cough, Patrick H. Willems) I never got into the AVP franchise, unfortunately, but it does seem like something up my alley. I love monsters and grotesque creatures so I'll watch Predator after classes today and this video after Good luck with whatever your future projects.

I don’t think there’s any issues with videos examining the film’s rather blunt themes of american military on foreign soil or the hyper masculinity portrayed in the film since both relate back to the titular predator anyway. Certainly not enough of an issue to show clips from other people’s videos just to mock them.

when it seems to be all they ever talk about when there's substantially way more to the film than those vapid talking points I think there's nothing wrong with a bit of mockery, the military and masculinity themes are not actually as prominent as most make them out to be except for one or two scenes. The film does not hate it's male characters or demonizes them for their masculinity, if it did it wouldn't try to make you care about them getting butchered by the Predator

@@fwwaller I have never cared about the characters in the movie. It’s just a well made entertaining flick that has an awful first act and amazing 3rd act. But even simple films can be discussed with depth. You say it’s all they ever talk about while only selectively showing them talking about those things, seems in bad faith a little bit.

@@gumbiman3350 Well I do, and so do most people who like the film, and those essays do not discuss the film with depth. Believe it or not people identify with the film's characters and don't celebrate their deaths because of "toxic masculinity."
