I agree 100% with what you’ve said, I’ve always taught the kids shooting using air rifles as a starter because it’s a transferable skill. If you can learn to shoot an air rifle accurately then there’s nothing you can’t shoot, as you have to learn the best trigger control and follow through. And hunting with an air rifle really teaches field work the best way I’ve ever seen!

Thanks Chris! Glad you enjoy this type of shooting/video as well! I do like watching your videos. I feel that 75 meters is quite a long stretch for a .177 sub-12 but interesting to try just to see what happens. You shooting the DRS and commenting in the velocities gives me an idea about the PCPs consistency. I'm getting a .22/600 FAC and everything will be different. Think that the (Panthera) valve design is more "comfortable" operating at at higher power settings. I'm not into ballistic calculators - it's DOPE all the way! I like experimenting/testing as well. My approach is to start close and move the target back 5 yards at a time watching how the groups disperse. Fun stuff! Cheers!

This is exactly the problem I have with my DRS and after trying different pellets I too thought I'd settle on the JSB Heavies. There's lots of chatter about the AMP reg being poor quality, the seals being week and even the hammer spring. Coming from a HW100 for 4 years this comes nowhere near so far so I will persist as I am starting to find it as entertaining as it is frustrating. Thanks for all your input, I'm a plinker not a hunter and shoot max out to 70 mtrs but zero at 30. Good luck.

Have you tried H&N Baracuda Match? I know all airguns have their preferences, but generally, most of my guns really like the H&N BM. Granted, they don't like them in 4.51, or 4.52, but my high end guns all shoot very well with the 4.50 version, or one of the previously mentioned, after they've been resized. They're slightly heavier than the JSB heavy though, so they might not be good for sub 12 ft/lbs guns.

Great video Chris, shows how it is generally and not just showing the 1 in a hundred group that fits under a 5p piece. Like you I love getting into the ballistics to try and understand what is happening, I have found that sub 12 rifles are very suseptable to the slightest changes. The slightest breath of air affects them the further out you go, left or right even from behind or in front can lift up or push the pellet down. Using pellets straight from the tin also, there will be slight differences in weight and slight deformaties. Some elude to using faster lighter pellets to "beat" the wind but I have not found this to be the case, you just need to shoot a correctly zeroed .22 next to a .177 to check that out and the .22 is less than 600fps. I think your Chrono should be using the GA drag coeficient which is recommended for air rifle pellets, it can make a difference of 2-3 clicks at 70m (14-21mm) Also to help those dialing their Mil type scopes. At 100m 1 click equals 10mm, at 80m its 8mm at 50m its 5mm and so on. Therefore if you are 40mm (4cm) off the mark at 50m range then you need 8 clicks to bring it back (40/5=8) simples 🙂

Nice video. I find the 10.34s start to struggle beyond 65 yards in sub 12. The Bisley Magnums are much more accurate at that range. Definitely worth trying a tin. 👍

hi i got my drs 2 weeks ago in .22 and i found if you tighten the stock screw up to 6nm of torque it then made the groups shrink by 3/4 mills and i also set the trigger up too a single stage with very light let off. Now taking squirrel eyes out at 30 yards with ease as long as you do your part right. And i've changed the mag for a 3D printed set witch i think has also helped a lot.

I shoot 75 yards with a sub 12 .177 every week. At a 28mm bell target that’s about the size of a £2 coin. In calm conditions it’s very easy to get 15+ shots on consecutively but calm conditions are rare. A slight head wind will scatter the pellets and with strong winds it’s comical. We have also had hits on a 9mm bell target but that is really hard and you couldn’t do that in anything but the calmest conditions. The best equipment in my opinion is a large optic 50mm+ objective lens and 17x zoom or higher. The optic should have a Christmas tree reticle to give you fast hold off in the wind. I use second focal plane scopes zeroed at 50 yards and I hold over some guys will zero at 75 yards it’s your choice. Guns pcp weihruach HW100 bullpup. If you want to make it even easier use a gun with an electronic trigger like a Day State alpha wolf. Another gun is the ATG vixen which is also ridiculously accurate. Most pcps will have no problem although FX guns can be problematic and the Airmaks Katran have had issues as well. Just to be clear this is not just seeing 1 gun have a problem it’s more than one and with different owners. If you’re a springer shooter it’s possible to hit. I have managed to hit the 75yard bell target most weeks though it is less consistent but achievable. I have done this with my HW 97’s in .22 and .177 running at lower magnification between 8-10X mag with 32mm objective lens I use Optisan CP scopes for that, which all my springers have mounted. Other makes of gun the have no trouble are air arms tx200, also hw98. Other things that help get to 75 are windicators attached to the target we use 2 a dayglo ribbon and builders line those two will give good indication of strength and direction. Other things is a large metal back plate sprayed with line paint to indicate missed shots to allow for corrections. That’s about it have fun.

I hunt rabbits between 65 and 85 yards and been doing it for 4 years successfully in sub 12. you just gotta know your stuff and have the right kit. you cant use dropping grass for wind with sub 12 air guns at those ranges, it's not sensitive enough. You need either very light thin cotton or chalk. a 0.8mph breeze makes a huge difference at those ranges. The elevation correction is because the wrong drag function was being used, it's not G1, it's GA.

When I tell them it's a pellet rifle I usually get the reaction of oh like it's a toy, till I let them shoot it and show them the crazy accuracy lol, then they usually want to know where to get one lol ,

My little air arms s510 in 177 would hit that not a problem at 75m. Most air guns have a sweetspot on pressure and my s510 is at about 175 and its shoots sweet as a nut, that fx will have one too and if you’ve been doing all those shots with one fill then that could be the reason. I enjoy shooting a pellet rifle sometimes more than my rimfire as it’s a much harder discipline in my eyes and I just love figuring the thing out.

I understand you want it to be better than it is, but it just isn't. If however you replace the liner and shroud with a real barrel from loather or CZ then it may be ok. The 12 ftlb HW100 will do it all day at a ton.

Great video. My HW100 in 177 likes the 7.87g Air Arms Diabolo Express. I believe these are the same as JSB Diabolo Exact Express? They've shot some very tight groups out at 70yd plus. There's not much on KZbin about testing lighter weight pellets, though! The trend is heavy pellets or slugs but I've found speed to be key in 177. Is this something you could test Chris? At 815fps, they also appear less affected by wind. I'm not sure if it's the reduced time of flight, meaning the wind has less time to have an effect? They’re also a very effective hunting pellet at sub 12ft/lb hunting distances.
@sidweazel28834 ай бұрын
I’ve got the same rifle as you and shoot the same pellets. I shoot 65 metres rat head shots with ease when wind is low. Air Arms and JSB Diablos are very slightly different in skirt length and also material composition, but very slight and both work well. For me, Air Arms are my favourites.
