Just starting my crazy slug analysis with my RTI Priest 2 performance. Nowadays there seems to be 3 basic bases for slugs. I'm wondering if you agree with the following information? Flat base & Boat Tail slugs work a better with VERY high power airgun of a certian twist rate. Cup Base slugs work best out of moderate to high power PCP airguns. My .22 caliber 22 grain slugs have been shot well at velocities of 750 FPS. Dish base slugs work best from high power PCP airgun but can shoot well out of moderate power airgun with a higher twist rate. CUP BASE slugs are a good starting point as they work best in many moderate to high power PCP airguns with twist rates of 1:17 to 1:19.

I think Part 2 will show the heavier slugs will do better especially the 28 grain

I like my FX chronograph but will rig a platform to mount it off the barrel , it plays to much on the harmonics of the barrel in testing speed & accuracy .
@wmnapier4 жыл бұрын
You cannot have that FX Radar connected to the barrel and shoot groups, it will scatter any group you try to shoot..................
@AimSmall4 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ, it does change the harmonics, but I shot a 8mm grouping today at 50m with the Chrony on.
@wmnapier4 жыл бұрын
@@AimSmall Yes you did shoot good groups and that was you, but others should not site their rifle in with the FX Radar attached, it will make the groups High, low, left or right.... they may group well sometimes but the POI will change when you remove it.
@AimSmall4 жыл бұрын
@@wmnapier 100% correct, I never sight my gun in with the radar on, POI shifts a lot. I only use the FX Radar to check the speed after I found the best grouping, I then use the speed with Chairgun to determine my click and/or holdover. I am old school here and like to shoot hold over. more challenging for me.

Thank you for the great review. Slugs will never out shoot Pellets regardless of what they say.
@AimSmall4 жыл бұрын
Slugs and pellets have different uses, up to 75m pellets should be much more accurate than slugs, but when it comes to 100m and longer shots slugs are preferred for hunting as they keep their energy better. Better BC means they pack a harder punch at longer distances. I prefer the JSB Redesigned pellets up to 100m above any slug.
@wmnapier4 жыл бұрын
@@AimSmall I do agree with you for sure. But what good is a slug's power if you cannot hit the target!!!! The slug groups you shot today were not very good even up close. I think a good solid barrel with the right twist is what we need. And of course the FPS has to be there as well.
@AimSmall4 жыл бұрын
@@wmnapier Good comment indeed, the whole purpose of the exercise is to look at the groupings at longer ranges and then to determine which slug, if any, is best suited for my gun, pellets are not that accurate after 120m, thus slugs accuracy should be better at those extreme distances. I will be testing some pellets at 100m as well soon, it unfortunately takes a lot of time to do a single video, example I sat 5h shooting Saturday and did another 6 hours of editing to finish one 6min video. I will have to work after hours this week to finish the second part of my video. The main purpose is exactly to test and see what works best. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

@@AimSmall I want to thank you for all the time and work you put into these video's. I have done a few videos myself and it takes a lot more time than people think it does. I know the slugs are a better choice if you have a barrel that can deliver them. Have a great day.

I tend to disagree with the accuracy between pellets and slugs. Im shooting jsb knockouts at around 940 and Im doing same hole to 20c groupings at 50m.

Move the chrony further down the barrel, It worked for me
@AimSmall2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the Chrony is very sensitive to speed of you move it down barrel, the placement has to be 100% the same distance from the front to get consistent readings.
@PeakyBlinder2 жыл бұрын
@@AimSmall I was getting miss readings so I dropped it behind the moderator and it is more stable, Albeit the speeds FPS vary a lot but I think that's the slugs, I have been using 217s that under the micromiter read 216 or 5.49, They are rattling down the barrel, 5.52 seem loose but you feel them being pushed into the barrel, I'm waiting for my 5 5377 swager die to turn up. Then I'll do some testing. Our of interest can you micromiter you h and n slugs 217 and 218 see what the micromiter says they are. Thanks.
@AimSmall2 жыл бұрын
@@PeakyBlinder Sorry sir, but I don't own a micrometer. Thus is am reliant on the manufacturer info, for this reason I observed the difference between the H&N's and Javelins, H&N 218's not a snug fit like the Javelin 218's.
@PeakyBlinder2 жыл бұрын
@@AimSmall exactly, You might want to grab a micromiter from eBay that way you know exactly what size your are using, H and n 218 should be 5.53 but mine micromiter at 5.52 which is 217 but says 218 on the tin. There are many free converted on the internet, It changes to 218 once the diamiter reaches 5.538, 5.537 drops to 217. Like I sad FX barrels prefer 5.5377 which is 0.2180. And as you like to go in-depth this will open your eyes. Like the old saying it does what it says on the tin. But the micromiter will prove differently. Happy shooting.

Wow, never expected groups like this through an impact with a 700mm barrel. Been wondering, have you tried the FX Radar connected to the bottle instead of the barrel?
@AimSmall4 жыл бұрын
The manufacturers say 1 to 2 inches from front of barrel, don't know if it will resister properly when attached to bottle, will try it for sure...

I am working on something to be able to push the speed up a bit without cranking the reg to unthinkable pressures, will keep this in mind, I have a funny feeling that certain slugs love excessive speed, the challenge is that the gun is heavy on air and the moderator doesn't do much to keep the crackling down at those speeds. I like a quiet gun, so this speed up is going to be a mental struggle for me.
@truemarksmen22374 жыл бұрын
Aim Small reg pressure at 150bar does the job. I shoot them at 1005ft and the grouping is very good! Still popping 60 shots per 250bar fill not even hitting reg pressure yet. My valve is sitting at approximately 7.8mm and my hammer is maxed with the modified 16mm hammer slide and seat. I have standard silencer and my rifle is dead quiet!!
@AimSmall4 жыл бұрын
@@truemarksmen2237 Somewhere i will need to make the sacrifice between shot count and speed, I am currently getting 80 shots per fill from 230 bar down to 150bar... if i push the reg harder Ithe shot count is going to suffer...
@djrautenbach2407 Жыл бұрын
I agree with truemarksmen. I have teied everything bringing reg down to 135. But without powerblock and dual port kit my airflow is not there just yet. I must say Im quite happy with my setup shooting with power on 5 up to 50m, valve spring at line 4, line visible, reg on 145, with power plenum, still having atleast 70 shots up to reg pressure. Longer shots I just throw power to max. 700mm slug liner not heavy liner yet. Love the 25gr knockouts. Javelins also not tooo bad..

Yes sir, harmonics plays a huge roll, certain slugs are very fussy out of the gun, I found that the H&N's, Javelins and JSB KO's are more stable at different speeds, however I shot the new Inferno RBT 29gn with extreme accuracy. Each slug has it own preferred speed.
