@@68Whiskey Yeah, well they had it coming. I know you probably don't like to commit but I am going to buy an impact and am debating THE caliber. Currently I have two favorites of my 3. I am awed by my .25 Armada and have gotten fairly in tune with its trajectory, etc. I pretty much hit what I shoot at. The other is my 357 Pitbull which is a far piece faster than a stock bulldog. I adore that thing but am very limited where and when I can shoot it. She is back yard friendly to a point but no such ideas of taking a whack at a pigeon on a wire nearby. I have a 22 prod that is tricked out moderately that honestly I am "Meh" about (too light). Long and short is I am waffling between a .25 and a .30 for the Impact. What kind of range are you doing with the .25 vs .30? Plus 200 yds I know full well that the 22 is going to shine based on BC and speed potential so I am not ruling that out. For perspective, I have been after some crows that love to set out there at about 200+ and laugh at me.....(until I find the rookery that is). I would really appreciate some advice.

The only issue I see here is a lack of certainty about the consistency of the tune. You can't shoot 10 shots at any given setting and know that the gun is in harmony, it takes many many shots. I generally shoot at least 40 shots when I believe I'm close. The object is get that SD (standard deviation) down as low you can. Generally anything below 4 is okay but you really want to be in the 2s. In the hands of the same shooter, regardless of the conditions, a gun tuned to shoot an SD of 2.? at 870 fps is going to out perform a gun shooting an SD 5.? at 970 fps every time. If you can get that gun to shoot 960 with a decent Ex spread (under 15) and an SD of under 3 you're KILLIN IT... It's not easy to do, but it is doable and once you find that combo of ultimate speed and reliable predictability, you'll never want to shoot a gun any other way. Thanks for the video, I learned something valuable about the scope mount adjustment process and that doesn't happen often. Cheers Joe P.
@68Whiskey4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe, You are right about the amount of shots of course. I mentioned it in the video (let it settle in) but the dang video was already a half hour long. The next day david actually played a little more with the valve adjustment with really long shot strings. It is shooting like you describe. As good as it gets. Its hard to fit a perfect tune into a YT video even when you trim out the down time. Glad the scope thing was some new info. Thanks for watching!

Great video guys! I'm confused, after tweaking and tuning you said, "So, now we're done with harmonic tuning..." I thought harmonic tuning was about tuning the harmonics of the barrel and using stuff like rubber pieces along the barrel to change the harmonic frequency until it's sending harmonic frequencies through it that gives the best accuracy. I've heard that a few times lately and I've missed something somewhere, probably because I don't have an Impact, but I thought it was all about the harmonics in the barrel, I've always seen FT/HFT/Olympic shooters work on harmonics that way, all the other stuff I'm sure will make a difference in harmonics, I just thought that was about the vibrations running through the barrel.
@68Whiskey4 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy. So yeah. You got me here I used the term incorrectly actually, kinda. What you said is spot on. I said harmonic thinking the gun was “in harmony” bc it was producing solid consistent fps. But thats not how the term is used. What you said about the barrel is on the money. I start with getting the gun happy. Then test for groups. I know some do otherwise but i like the results we get this way. Sorry for the confusion you are right!
@slowpokeairgunner40274 жыл бұрын
@@68Whiskey Ok, no problem, don't let it happen again, hahaha! No big deal I just wanted to know if I missed something or something I didn't know about that maybe I should. The question I have is will this 30 cal be as accurate and also be able to penetrate 3/4 inches of wood at 300 to 400 yards like the 22 cal or is the 30 cal slug going to be too heavy and lose energy at that distance?

Hey have you done a video on how far out you can shoot an out of the box fox impact? Would love to see what you can do. Was just wondering how far out there the factory settings on the gun will take you?
@68Whiskey2 жыл бұрын
Factory settings without a tune or without extra parts? Tuning is mandatory for long range. Extra parts arent. I have shot 300 with pellets when its calm no issues after tuning it
@brianpereira54982 жыл бұрын
I was just wondering what they’ll do. No tuning just they way it comes set from the factory. All I’ve done to my gun is threw an element scope. And Donny fl shogun silencer. Running 18.5 grain fx pellets. Any suggestions on tunes for that round? And I won’t be shooting much further than 50-75 yards max until I get more scope time. And thanks for the awesome videos you put out. Really helpful and just bad ass shooting you throw down.

Good info. Looking forward to getting my .25 M3 this week. Got the 60mm barrel, so I imagine the tuning will be the same. Just reg pressures and others will be a bit different. This info should get me going. I imagine from here, I would work on fine tuning for slugs? Oh, one other question. What was your front reg set at? Thanks a million!

Never seen this method of zeroing in the scope. Good job. I bought the FX Impact a couple of months ago new with a new Helix Element scope. It was setup where I bought it. But every time I use the gun the sights are way off. Usually shoots high, sometimes low. Side to side is not to bad but still not right. I dial it back in and get a good group but the next time I use it again the scope is way off. Not sure if its the gun or the scope that is the problem. Getting very frustrated with it not being able to come close to a target at even 25 yards. Its a days journey to take it back to where I bought it from. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.
@68Whiskey4 жыл бұрын
If the gun is grouping but its always off, my guess is gun handling, or the scope is mounted incorrectly/ too tight- too loose on the screws. We pick our guns up by the scope. Never grab them by the barrel. And lay them into their cases being sure to put it down flat and not put side to side pressure on the barrel. Treating them like that we never have to rezero. If you are taking that amount of care as you handle the gun, then someone set the gun up / mounted the scope improperly. Both the gun and the scope are solid systems, but if one is done wrong, the whole system is junk. So i suggest gun handling if you arent being as careful as we are, and taking the scope off and remounting with a torque wrench to the listed specs if you are handling the gun well. Hope that helps
@kerrylittle39004 жыл бұрын
@@68Whiskey Thanks so much for the speedy reply and info. The gun comes with its own foam lined case. I pick it out of the case by the handle and air bottle so never touch the scope or the barrel. Might have to try starting from the beginning again.The man who installed and setup the scope has been doing this for years. He sure looks like he knew what he was doing. Even using a level to install the scope. You make it look easy but I have never done this before. Thanks again for your help.
@68Whiskey4 жыл бұрын
@@kerrylittle3900 yeah man my pleasure. The only other thing it could be is that the barrel screw or liner screw is over tightened or has become loose. Should be an easy fix. And it’s definitely something too tight or too loose

First of all I think your videos are some of the best out there! Very informative and interesting. I've got an FX Impact,.25 cal., Power Plenum, and 700mm barrel. I just purchased the FX Superior Slug liner and want to try my luck tuning it. Shooting the new .26G FX Hybrid slugs. I know every gun is different, and no two gauges give the same readings. However, what (ballpark) reg pressure and FPS readings should I be looking for initially? Thanks
@68Whiskey4 жыл бұрын
Hey man, understanding the =caveats you have listed, i would start at 130 bar with the hammer near maxed out. and run the reg up until you are about 20 fps over what you want. then back down 20 fps with the valve!

I'm sure you mentioned the distance you zero the gun at, but I missed it. What range would you suggest? 20, 30,50, 100yds or, does it matter since you have so much elevation in your scope with the adjustable rings? Thx
@68Whiskey4 жыл бұрын
I always like my zero to be where i can shoot at anything close and hit it, out to a reasonable distance without touching the turrets. So for most of my rifles thats 50 yards. My lower powered guns are at 35 yards.

Thanks so much Jeff. Yes i have very strong opinions on scopes lol. Depending on budget, we are in love with our athlon scopes. Very bright glass and repeatable turrets. The other one i would highly recommend is the new element optics scope line. We are testing one right now (the titan) and its incredible . You will have to wait about a month or two for element but im very impressed with the one we have.

What is the required minimum pressure on the reg ? Is it true that if the pressure is below the required setting it will damage the gun?
@68Whiskey4 жыл бұрын
Required min pressure for the gun to operate as it should is the reg pressure itself. While i have heard many times that it will damage the gun if shot below that pressure, it really doesnt. We have shot below the reg hundreds of times during a hunt where we just didnt want to go back and reair yet, or didnt pay attention Not once has it ever hurt one of our rifles.

Hey I have a maverick 25 that I'm trying to tune for slugs. Can I tune it to that magic harmonic spot without that valve adjuster thing you have on the impact? Just give it a little more reg pressure after I find my speed? To maybe close the valve a little quicker 🤔 I'm not sure but I'll bet you guys know. Thanks Keith and Norm.
@68Whiskey3 жыл бұрын
Thats a good question man. For me the magic is almost always 150-55 bar. And the hammer where it needs to be. The magic is whatever shoots. Dont overthink it. If i have a gun that shoots lights out at 910 thats where i shoot it. If its 970 thats where i shoot it. Realistically and extra 50 fps doesnt gain you swuat at long range. So i just let the gun tell me what it wants

Question for you, I have a impact mk2, after I installed the dual transfer port, slug power kit and slug liner I notice it is consuming a lot of air. It's taking about 5 bars or air after each shot. I'm only able to get about 20 shots before I have to fill my tank with more air. Is this normal to use that much air with the slug upgrade? Before the upgrade I was able to get about 3 mags worth per fill. With the upgrades My reg is only set at 100 bars shooting nsa 33.5 at 935 fps and only getting 20 shots.
@68Whiskey2 жыл бұрын
They definitely consume more air when upgraded but yours seems aggressive for you reg setting. You might try upping the reg a little or lowering the hammer tension so you get a quicker shorter stronger burst of air. Sounds like you have unused air leaving the barrel with a longer valve opening than need be currently. But you won’t get three mags no matter what. I aim for one mag with great power

@68Whiskey4 жыл бұрын
Roughly. But with more consistent ammo. Ive never had a 22 group this well. The ammo fluctuates too much in quality for my taste in 22lr
@jedics14 жыл бұрын
@@68Whiskey After I asked this I went to Google, it said 22LR is 1400 to 1800 fps which is roughly double that of the Impact so not really even close. I used to take out Big Reds (Australias biggest Kangaroos) here is Australia with a basic 22LR holo point but they had to be headshots so Impact likely not going to be a replacement unfortunately.
