This works. Try it. Something I forgot to talk about in the video... Note how muzzle jumps significantly less for the tuned setting vs the out-of-tune setting. 👍

The best comparison for us to hear it from a computer was the last demonstration as you quickly alternated between the two settings and shortened the duration between shots with the editing. That showed the difference that you were hearing in real time. Nice description of the procedure.

Ted, that was a great practical demonstration of how just a few turns of the power wheel can make a big difference. Another thing I noticed is cocking the gun is so much smoother, not getting that same force as the spring is taking on the load right toward the end.

Thanks for sharing. I total agree with you my friend. When the gun is in its happy place you can hear the difference. To much power...it sounds angry...when it’s right...it just sounds right, not too aggressive, quieter, less torque, smoother. You can definitely hear the difference. By the way I hope you have at least one more video coming on the .25 Avenger. I set my reg at 22-2400 psi, hammer spring at max, and it pushing JSB Hades 26.54s @ 914 dead nuts accurate. Really digging this gun bud. Take care and God Bless you and yours.

For those whose ear is not attuned to the finer differentiation between the two settings, the Chrono numbers can be used to find the optimal HS setting. Simply shoot a string of shots at a particular HS setting that is consistent in speed with a very low standard deviation.

The most clear and easy to understand tuning explanation for the Impact I have seen. What's missing is a description of how that tricky adjustor for the regulator valve works. It has a big impact on air use and velocity. I have messed around with it a lot and have found it is really the secret to consistent velocities. I would love for that to get included in a tuning video. Thanks so much for spending the time to put this stuff out there. It really appreciated as many of us are working on this stuff in a bit of a vacuum.

Josh... I took a full year of video reviews to decide. Just because Ted used the FX brand know that they are SUPER slow at getting products out once Ted and Matt Duber show them. Like 6 mo or longer. Daystate are really good but expensive...yes more so than FX if you can believe that. Best way to choose your gun is: 1. Make sure it is regulated. 2. Know what you will do with it. Hunt. Pest control. Target. And k ow the distance you will be shooting at. 25m 50m 100m 200m. 3. Choose Caliber wisely. .177 is fine on calm days or indoors posting but you MUST be super accurate and only head shots. .22 is good for posting and hunting indoors and out. Still must be doing head shots but tolerates wind better. .25 Pesting Hunting Competing and now you can go for the heart lung shots. .30/.35 ... yeah those are more expensive ammo so I cant advise there but hunt and target would be great. If you can try a gun first that is a great way to go. Air gun gear show is also great resource. Good luck. Good hunting. Aim Small Miss Small.

I understand the "washing air" bit,... Just last night I was bored so I wondered why the baffles in the suppressor of my CO2 rifle were facing the direction they do so I reversed them to see what would happen. Some pellets were fine but pellets with longer skirts were flying all over the place from the air pushing at the pellet in a radical manner after the pellet left the rifle,... I could also see the difference with a huge puff of foggy CO2 air shoot out of the suppressor lol.

The Bearded Ted! A rare species of Wisconsin apex predator. Prefers small invasive birds and cheese curds. Occasionally will be seen stalking grain silos, for what we assume is his grain intake. The species appears to be omnivorous but is rarely seen without a bangstick. A female of this species has never been spotted in the wild so scientist believe this male is a lone survivor of a long gone group of Bearded Teds. We hope he one day finds a Bearded Ted Lady to keep him company with his squirrels and barn cats.

Ted, as I value your opinion, I'm about to buy a Crown with boyd's thumbhole stock and want to focus on 2 different areas. 1) rats and birds at close distance 10m - 50m, and larger birds, bunnies and foxes out to 75m. The closer in game I want to use Hades and the 177 pellets with a smooth twist barrel to protect the round going through the animal and into potentially a building or roofing, and a 30cal slug with slug liner for better ballistic impact more out in the open and over longer distances. Am I on the right track or being over cautious? I know you get heaps of these types of questions, hope you get to see this one and feel free enough to comment. Cheers from Australia.

I hear a little less of a heavy bang. A higher pitched and lighter sounding smack. Untuned sounds like the valve is hitting the frame. Tuned sounds like the hammer hits the valve, but the valve doesn’t hit the frame.

Thanks for the video Ted, great as always! I am just about to pick up an impact and start tuning from scratch, my planned methodology is as follows and I wanted to run this past you and everyone else for a sense check? I plan to max the valve adjuster and hammer spring and only adjust reg pressure while shooting different groups, once I’ve found the best group/velocity, I will increase reg slightly and then reduce hammer spring until i see the drop in velocity and leave it there and do the same with the valve adjuster. How does that sound? Just looking to find the most efficient way of starting from scratch without wasting too many slugs (likely hybrids in .22). Everything is harder to get hold of over here in the UK so don’t want to waste any ammo! Many thanks for any response!

I watched you video on the various. 25cal barrels a few days ago but I don't think you mentioned the twist rate of the .30 that you were using as "the standard" to compare the .25's against. My question (finally! lol) is: can you tell me what the twist rate are the stock .30 600mm barrel that come on new (Feb2021) Impact X MKII and are they call Superior STX "slow" barrels or something else? You show the power wheel is set at "Max". Do you also max out the hammer spring adjustment as a part of the process? Great start on the beard, perhaps a 2/10 on the Edeleman (Julian) scale :). I've had mine since 79' and still can only manage 6/10 on the Sklar (Leland) scale of grey beards. Remember the tip given by Mr Kringle in Miracle on 34th St "...the cold air helps it grow".
