Can a chronograph provide more value than just giving you velocity information? In the case of the FX true ballistic chronograph that answer would be yes! This chronograph is able to provide the basic velocity information but it can also create a custom ballistic coefficient for your rifle, with your bullet in your conditions. Join me in this deep dive on the FX true ballistic chronograph to see how to set the unit up for use, properly configure it and then lets put rounds down range to see if it lives up to it's promises!

I don't need another large panel chronograph and I don't need it to tell me its calculated BC. I just use the Custom Drag Model provided by Applied Ballistics. My next chronograph will be one of the small chronographs either from Garmin or LabRadar.

I’d say if it’s a berger BC probably stick with advertised. If memory serves BC is dynamic and velocity dependent. By only having 300 yards to sample you probably aren’t getting the full picture. This is why custom drag models are becoming the norm with applied ballistics. I’m sure you already know but as long as you are spinning the bullet fast enough to fully stabilize you should get the advertised BC.

100% agree with you here. That said I do like the ability to confirm the bc I am getting is inline with what a manufacturer publishes. Berger specifically I’ve now run 2 of their bullets with this chrono and both times the fx true ballistic nailed the bc almost spot on with bergers info. I also like that it’s able to provide me a g7 bc for bullets that maybe don’t have the info published…. SMKs for example

Man its amazing how much technology can help you get on target so fast! That FX chronograph really make it easy with telling you what bc is. Only thing that would make it better is if it gave you elevation and humidity too keeping the number of tools less. Curious what the app entails and if you can link with other things.

What shooting bag are you using? I noticed in a couple of other videos that you have a few of them, and I would like your opinion on them. Also, I, the Garmin C1, is the way to go. While the BC is excellent, I don't believe it is necessary for a majority of shooters.
@InfamousTactical
@InfamousTactical 2 ай бұрын
LabRadar also allows you to establish a BC. But in this day and age I would trust the BC that either Berger or Hornady publish given they test with a $100k radar. Maybe useful for bullets that don’t have a bc. But anything used in precision rifles is already figured out.
@MountainsMulletsMerica

While this is very true, I do find value in confirming the bc I’m actually getting is in line with what the manufacturer publishes. Pretty cool that I’ve now used this chrono on 2 different Berger bullets and the data has been spot on each time. That said, good luck finding a g7 bc published by Sierra on their smks…. I used this chrono just today to determine my actual g7 bc on a 175smk.
@Tacvet07
@Tacvet07 2 ай бұрын
think I'd rather true velocity by either measuring the distance from point of aim to point of impact or increasing the speed by 10 fps til you achieve your MIL or MOA called for originally. I have never thought of changing the bc from the factory. just my 2cents

@MountainsMulletsMerica
@MountainsMulletsMerica 2 ай бұрын
I have been very pleasantly surprised with the element theos. I haven’t compared side by side with any of my NF scopes yet but shooting it standalone it’s very impressive glass. I had no problem making hits out to 1870yds the other day (video coming soon). The thing I’m most impressed with however is the ability to rezero turrets without tools…. Can’t believe no one has done that before

@MountainsMulletsMerica yep and it automatically gives you 5 clicks under 0 also! I was gonna get the atacr until I found out the entire optical lens moves with magnification which would be annoying with a flip cap on.. also I was able to get the theos new for 2050

We all know that a .4 off is not an acceptable solution. In prs you need a better solution than that. I have never been more than a .1 off with a kestrel with applied ballistics. Let’s be real
@MountainsMulletsMerica
@MountainsMulletsMerica 2 ай бұрын
While I agree .4 error is not acceptable, I believe that was some kind of outlier. Especially given the data at 1035 was only .1 off. Since filming this video I’ve filmed 2 more using the same chrono….. in one I show the calculated bc is spot on for a 230 atip out to 1870 yds. That said, the more rounds I shoot with this chrono the more data I’ll have. Maybe I’ll do a follow up video down the road.
@InfamousTactical
@InfamousTactical 2 ай бұрын
Like I said in the other comment. I just don’t see the need to determine your own BC with bullets that have been determined using a system like hornady has. Research how they are doing it. Using a $100,000 radar to track the bullet over a huge distance and determine a true path. I’ve used LabRadar for 8 years and honestly never used the feature. And have never been let down by the BC published by Berger or Hornady. The standard in my world is true your ballistic calculation based on velocity to 600 yards and then BC past that. But the reality is that at extreme range( past 1 mile) the most I have ever adjusted BC is 2 points. Again just an unnecessary exercise in my opinion. Most very experienced shooters would advise against messing with the BC too much because you will likely find it to pull other distances off their solution.
