Something we've been planing for years finally got done. Adding more garden bed space in a micro climate and catching more of our rainwater. The planters we purchased - amzn.to/3wJQXN4

Join Fy Nyth on social media - mewe.com/i/fynyth ! If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
We live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at mewe.com/join/... or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!

It looks great from a purely aesthetic point of view. Once things are grown in, it will look quite beautiful. I can imagine eventually making the entire side a large greenhouse with materials you find so you can have a traditional summer garden with tomatoes, peppers and green beans. I love that they are self watering 😁

Such a wonderful idea! It reminded me in some respects of the file cabinets you planted with flowers around the tiny house before you moved it. Very nice! ❤

Here's a variety of cantaloupe for you developed here in Minnesota by the U of M in 1947 called, of all things, Minnesota Midget! Produces 4-6 inch fruits, golden yellow fruit, and an edible rind. Good choice for northern gardeners. Like sunshine and can stand cool nights. (When frost was predicted, I covered mine with old sheets that I bought at garage sales) 60 to 70 days to harvest. Some northern gardeners have gotten 2 crops in one season. They love containers. They are fabulous! So dang tasty!

Congrats Ariel and Clay. Building raised beds, then building fill dirt, then planting, weeding these new beds are all labor intensive and look like a setup for success. Good on you two, hard, smart work. I have sifted dirt for my garden…whew! Love your wonderful dump truck and four wheeler, really good help. I’m wondering are your beds, “no till”. Thank you for sharing your life, a blessing to all of us…from east Tennessee.

I want to add other things can grow better with time too. Like some plants are very hungry, like squashes, so once there is more rich nutrients from dead leaves and roots, they might be able to pick up

Reminds me of my stock tank gardens on my city lot. Keeps the bunnies out nicely, but I still have to deal with chickens hopping in to happily dig in the rich soil! Perhaps because my tanks are steel, I struggle to balance my soil and sometimes have some nasty fungi or powdery mildew. Then of course, I have to pull the soil and replace, and adjust the drip water again, and again, and again....

Seeing you sifting that soil felt a bit close to home this week as I just put a couple of fruit trees in (I don't think they'll do well, but I wanted a corner cleared) and to do so dug out any amount of glass, pottery, well-rotted barbed wire and two three-foot-by-seven sheets of heavy gauge corrugated iron! What the previous owner was thinking I don't dare think...
