Nice knife Rob FYRD knives look nice and judging by your video perform well........also great to see the medium splitting axe get an airing. Had mine for 20 odd years using it every winter including 7 years in New Zealand splitting 6+ ton of wood each winter!! other than a nice patina on the handle it still looks as good and functions as well as the day I received it

@@RobEvansWoodsman due to the relatively (for a splitting axe) you can get away with some chopping but it really doesn't bite very deep, although the weight helps once you have a notch...not recommended though. I remember an American video where the presenter used one with a silky saw and a good knife as he 'out for a week' kit and it all worked really well together for processing some substantial amounts of wood....... not sure if it would fit the needs of a day out in the woods. However, if you go back to your mates wood with the hut that you have been to you could showcase a saw/axe combo for quickly processing lots of wood...just a thought 🤘

Beautiful blade…please don’t think I’m trying to poke fun…just noticed that almost all videos I see of batoning..everyone switches hands with the blade..as to use the baton with the dominant hand…just curious as to why..I am an ambidextrous person..only bc I shattered my shoulder blade as a teen…and had to learn how to use the opposite hand…but…found out very quickly..it is just another part of the body..and have continued to practice both hands for everything..just incase an injury happens to my dominant hand..

I think switching hands makes double sense because you’re more likely to hurt yourself on your dominant hand if it’s holding the knife (which would be bad cause yk it’s the dominant hand) because your batoning with the non dominant hand tends to be less accurate. So with switching you have more accuracy so as to lower the risk of injury but also in case you’re injured it’s most likely the less important hand.

@@cleanixx5343 I think that if you have no idea how to use the non dominant hand..and you injure your dominant hand..you’re in trouble..second..I understand the situation..it is the less accurate hand..which is why you should start small..don’t use all your might when using a baton..ever…but still..all I’m saying is a little practice does go a long way..a lot longer than one would think..it truly is just the other side of the body..and needs the practice…I not saying you should become fluent in cursive forwards and back with your less dominant hand..just please start small..notches…both hands do a lot of the work anyway…just reverse the rolls…
