The e-bikes are brilliant for old people or eg people with week knees. Makes it possible to bike you're whole life as it helps you up the hills. I know several who would have to switch to cars if the e-bike wasn't an option.

Silver Back all due respect, I would like to see my mother in law join us on the trails, but at her age, she won’t make it without a little help. I want to make a pedal assist trike for her so the dogs can ride in the back basket too and balance will be less of a problem.

One problem I have noticed is that virtually all the cargo bikes don't take into account the welfare of the rider, ie zero weather protection, which probably will cause more illness.

On the contrary; being exposed to rain, snow, cold, rain wind and sunshine makes you stronger and healthier! People that ride their bicycle to work and school are less ill than other people that travel by car or PT. Besides, it hardly ever rains! www.hetregentbijnanooit.nl

Hardly ever rains, the UK is like living in a shower some times it never stops raining. As for making you stronger, I tried it once for over two years cycling to work in the summer I sweated like mad and in winter I sweated but because I sweated I froze I got sick more using my bike for work than had I just jumped in the car or rode my motorcycle, no sweating on the motorcycle by the way. I think rider weather protection is a huge plus, obviously they don't need heaters but protection from the rain because once you get wet it's really hard to get dry unless you somewhere to dry out your cloths so rider protection should be basic consideration for any delivery vehicle. For sport it don't matter too much cos you won't be out there 8 hrs or more usually, but delivering goods you need basic protection from the elements, if you protect the packages you should also protect the riders.

flitsies I think so too. I'm currently building a cargo bike that will have a roof unfold like a convertible. Another option is a front fairing with a windsock, but it only works on a lwb recumbent bike. I suppose one can make it a cargo bike too.

@@JosSluijsmans Some people sunburn easily and can't tan. Too much sun exposure is harmful and can cause cancer or aging. I don't see what the big deal is to provide some shelter on bikes.

@@user-gu9yq5sj7c It's perfectly OK to wear a sunhat or clothes to protect the skin against the sun. For me a roof on a cargo bike has more disadvatages than advantages, but nowadays there are lots of cargo bikes with a roof to protect the rider against the sun, the rain, the wind or whatever. For me that kills the freedom and joy of riding a bike, but that is a personal thing.
