People won't their hair mess-uped and they want the freedom to not have to wear (and carry) a helmet. So more people would rather take the car. That's why the _snorfiets_ (25 km/h moped) is so much more popular here than the _bromfiets_. However, the EU succeeded in getting bike helmets compulsory for speed pedelecs or 45 km/h e-bikes. Those bikes are considered by law "50cc mopeds" (no English equivalent for _bromfiets_). This also means that those bikes have to ride on the public roads where they'll ride up to 70 km/h at some places. I wish those cyclists that are going only 30-35 km/h good luck at those roads. I'm pretty sure no (sane) police officers (except Amsterdam) will enforce this law here in the Netherlands unless they're driving 45 km/h at places where those speeds aren't suited.

Well, a crash from 130 kph, aka 80 mph, can cause death, so please put some armor on. Where arr your legs before you fall? And why do you have to go too fast that your legs turn useless when you fall (or you even have to fall?)? You ask people who go 15 kph, aka 10 mph to wear helmets, really? Would you like to asl people walking to wear helmets too? If they fall from the top flights of the stairs, it would cause serious injuries.
