FZ-07/MT-07 Fork Upgrade (Cheap!) & ECU Flash

For the Fork Upgrade you'll need:
1 liter of fork oil (15w or 20w)
Fork oil level tool
Adjustable Billet Fork Cap
I Set The Oil Level to 145mm
Factory Oil Level is 165mm

Nice video. I appreciated the info on the reflash. planning on that this winter. I only made one of the changes to the suspension and it really helped. That was the fork preload adjusters. I got the same ones for like $44 off eBay. Nice quality and really made a difference in handling.

Great vid Red, About to do a track day at Phillip Island and the only thing that bothers me about the bike is the front end on those long fast sweepers. Got a month to do the mods and I reckon it will make for a better day. Nice work mate, thanks.

Would you recommend changing the coil springs as well? Or did you notice enough of a difference without dropping the extra cash for new springs.

If it is so cheap to improve the front fork performance, why don't they do it at the factory?

John Aspinall A couple reasons... First off the bike is mass produced, so a $100 upgrade will cost the company millions of dollars. They would most likely pass this cost on to the consumer, but they're trying to keep the cost of the bike low. Another reason is this is considered an entry level bike to some. A new rider won't know the difference or need better suspension for beginner level riding. This video is intended for those who know the short comings of the suspension and would like an inexpensive upgrade rather than a very costly fork or cartridge replacement.

Igor Severić It's mostly cosmetic. It helps a little and it keeps the wind off my gps and the gauges. If you're looking for wind protection you'll want something larger

I have the biggest MRA screen for MT-07. It improves comfort significantly. The wind was annoying starting from 80km/h, now it's similar at 120km/h. Highly recommended for riding outside the city.

It seems china is popping out the adjustable fork caps. It looks to just be an adjustable platform that presses on the spring so maybe ill give those a shot

Squid WithGear - I splurged and bought the made in USA 🇺🇸 caps. Just be careful with the cheap ones, try them without the springs first to make sure the threads are good.

I've been riding a long time both on and off road, and I know a little bit about tuning suspension. When I felt the mushy front end on this bike I knew that putting a little more preload would stiffen it up a bit and the thicker oil would help with the damping.

Maybe this is a noob question but help me understand. Since 2wheeldynamics only has your ECU and doesn't actually put your bike on the dyno, they must use data on the fz-07, yoshimura exhaust and your air intake and put that into engineering software that can simulate ideal combustion conditions to program the ECU?

GrizzlyJ44... No they've had many FZ-07's in many configurations on their dyno so they have basic maps for those set-ups. If you were to actually bring your bike to them they may make some minor tweaks to the map but FZ-07 is a well tested and well documented bike. I can tell you after having my ecu flashed the bike ran great. I've made a change since this video and sent it back for a re-flash (no charge) and once again it was spot on.

Most definitely. The front end on this thing was soft and mushy before I changed it.

It will take slightly less than 500 ml, but the only accurate to fill it is by setting the level.

Yes it’s safe to raise the oil level. I raised it 20 mm and like the feel. If you want even more compression dampening you can try raising it another 20 mm and see how it feels

The ECU is the electronic control unit. It controls the fuel injection, ignition timing, and some other things. Flashing is re-programming it to work more efficiently with aftermarket modifications

Chris Calaycay The stock springs are working just fine for me. I would only recommend changing the springs if you're a heavy person or you feel you need the front end tighter

Red 5 I'll try just the oil swap. It should tighten up the front enough, Im 185 lbs.

Chris Calaycay Just the oil swap will help a lot. The adjustable preload caps would be good too. You would be able to dial in a little more spring pressure if you needed it.
