FZ 09 Steering Stabilizer - Install

Today we installed an $80 steering damper on my 2017 Fz-09. This will definitely improve the bike's handling. Hope you guys enjoy the video!

The bat clamp bolts were loose because you took the opposing ones out 😑. And that much loctite can make the screws back out worse than if there was no loctite. I might look into this damper.

Those bar clamp bolts loosen up when you remove half the clamping power. ;-)

They must be similar. Yamaha is not going to (reinvent the wheel) change the machining of frames to forks that much!

Hundreds of 07s on the KZbins and not one has a steering stabilizer video. I just dropped mine off at a shop to install it.

You used about 100x more loctite than necessary... Apply a small smear to the threads of the bolt, that's all you'll need! ;-) If you were trolling, good troll, lol.

Yeah I have a question about these steering stabilizers? Now I cant find many videos on these types of stabilizers but I'm wondering if you could make that work on a motocross bike? I need one on my bike bad bit I don't want to spend 500 or even 600 on one plus if have to replace my handle bar mounts and bars to fit the Scott's steering stabilizer! What do you think?

just installed it on my 2019MT09 and no wobbles. Took it up to 120mph and no issues, used to wobble right at 100mph.... Also used locktight and mine wiggles like his.

You reckon that was the best fix for that sort of wobbling? I have a '14 that also wobbles around 100-110 no matter how much I try to align the rear, which is what I've been assuming is my issue. Granted, the previous owners put the bike through a couple of pretty serious wrecks, so there's no telling what might be bent just slightly enough to exacerbate the wobbles.

@@MicroSprint22 changing the rear shock is also something that would greatly benefit it especially the 2014. The first gen FZs are known for terrible suspension. Look up fz09 sport rider suspension on KZbin

I always get a little shimmy on 1st fz09 2014 at 100-110mph. I have zx10r sport suspension rear. Need to order this damper because it's dangerous using this bike without it at that speeds.

i got the same damper on my cbr600rr no need to loctite the bolt where it moves with the dumper because the dumper shits on top of that bolt when you slide it in

Since you're installing a second one, I'm assuming you find it's of some benefit. I've only rarely experienced speed wobble and it was very little, but I'm wondering if it helps when riding in the wake of a truck at highway speeds. I've had some good results with Chinese stuff. The machined alloy parts seem fine, but the failure has always been with the hardware, rust ect.

For the 80 bucks absolutely! On my bike it actually helped to even mask how terrible the front suspension is simply by minimizing the amount of vibrations that the suspension was transferring through the bars. These bikes like to get very light in the front end especially when coming out of corners at higher speeds. The damper will also help to keep the front tire straight if the front end is set back down without the handlebars being 100% straight. Thanks for tuning in to the channel! ✌

On the FZ09 specifically im sure this is more beneficial than some other sport bikes,simply because of how often the front wheel gets off the ground. My bars love to start moving when the wheel is even inches off the ground.

using that much loctite dose the opposite then what it is supposed to. You only use a dot or 2 that is it.

Hi I installed the same unit and have noticed a slight amount of movement with the center bracket that holds the damper in place to the frame. Is this normal? I am assuming so because there is a rubber spacer there. Anyone else have this issue? All bolts are loctite in.

Yes, that seem to be normal for this specific steering damper! Havent had any problems with it since it's been installed

@@leeanderson3277 my mt09 would speed wobbles at 100mph every single time unless I tucked low and put pressure on the front forks. Drove me nuts. This works and hopefully will be a long term solution.

No problems with the damper assuming its installed correctly of course. Just make sure to loctite the bolt in the top of the main stem that holds the damper and you'll be fine!

Great question. I have one too. Our bikes xsr900 and mt09's can easily do triple digits but that front wheel gets a little sketchy over 100mph. I don;t do this often but for $80 I think this would be a good addition.
